I just got back from the grocery store. It was the first time during this whole pandemic that they had a sign out front insisting that no one enter without a mask. I asked the guy there if they had one I could use; and he said he wasn't policing it. Inside I was one of about 5 people who wasn't wearing a mask. I got a some looks from a few very frightenable looking people. But no one said anything.

There are a gazillion other viruses that came from animals that naturally gained the ability to spread among humans. SARS1 came from bats without needing to be modified.

Humans, rodents, and bats all have similar cell receptors and immune systems. So we're often susceptible to the same viruses.
