Britain’s ex-spy chiefs got rich off ‘Russian threat’ warnings, but IGNORED alarm bells on pandemic risk – report

What do Britain’s former spy chiefs get up to after they leave their posts? They make “millions” scaremongering about the “Russian threat” and lobbying the government on behalf of private interests, a new investigation confirms.

Nine out of 10 former MI6, MI5 and GCHQ chiefs have taken jobs in the cyber security industry since 2000, a sector they repeatedly promoted as crucial to defend the UK against Russia while in office, investigative website Declassified UK revealed.

The “revolving door” between government and industry is supposed to be regulated by the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA) to avoid conflicts of interest, yet the Declassified could find “no evidence” that a spy chief has “ever” had an ACOBA application rejected. In practice, this means they are free to lobby their old government agencies on behalf of private interests as soon as they leave their posts.

Trump "turbocharging" plan to remove China from global supply chain

President Trump is allegedly leading a project to remove global supply chains from China as a response to the country's mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic that originated there.

"This moment is a perfect storm; the pandemic has crystallized all the worries that people have had about doing business with China," a top U.S. official told Reuters. "All the money that people think they made by deals with China before, now they've been eclipsed many fold by the economic damage [from the pandemic]."

Keith Krach, undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy and the Environment at the State Department, told Reuters that the U.S. has been working on removing U.S. supply chains from China, but that the pandemic is "now turbo-charging that initiative."

‘Schiff in Panic Mode’: Sources Say Russia Probe Transcripts Affirm Officials Found Nothing on Collusion

Transcripts of House Intelligence Committee interviews have been cleared for release, and Adam Schiff is reportedly in panic mode. Unfortunately for Schiff, top law enforcement and intel officials said they saw no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in the transcripts.

Republicans sought and got approval for the release of the transcripts after Rep. Schiff approved and then blocked the transcripts from being released to the White House Lawyers or President Trump

John Solomon gets into the details below of how things came together for the release of the important transcripts that further exonerate President Trump.

When new DNI Director Richard Grinnell notified Rep. Schiff that the transcripts were ready for release, Schiff asked if Grinnell had been involved with the redaction of the transcripts. It turns out that the redaction had taken place before Grinnell became the DNI Director. So Schiff can’t cry foul on the transcripts because Trump ally Grinnell had nothing to do with them.

Nearly 80% of Laid-Off Workers Are Optimistic They’ll Return to Their Jobs

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced widespread economic shutdowns, leading to over 33 million unemployed Americans—the country’s worst period of job loss since the Great Depression—but a new poll indicates that a significant majority of laid-off workers believe their economic malaise to be temporary. A Washington Post-Ipsos poll indicates that 77% of laid-off or furloughed workers expect to be rehired once stay-at-home orders are lifted. Just 20% believe it is somewhat or very unlikely they will be rehired by their former employer.

A new Gallup poll reveals that consumer spending is down too, with a majority of respondents saying they are spending less money, the first time this Gallup poll has returned that result since the Great Recession in 2009-2010. Like the WaPo-Ipsos poll, those polled by Gallup believe this slowdown to be short-lived, with 47% of those spending less believing that their depressed economic activity is temporary. In 2010, 33% of those spending less thought it to be just a temporary slowdown.

Democrat Illinois Governor Pritzker Says Christian Churches May Not Reopen for a Year

Illinois Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker told reporters on Wednesday churches in his state may not reopen for a year.

Pritzker must believe the First Amendment is optional.

As Cassandra Fairbanks previously reported an Illinois church filed a lawsuit against Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker in April for violating the First Amendment and the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

The lawsuit, filed by the Thomas More Society on behalf of The Beloved Church in Lena, claims that the governor has a “hostility” towards religious faith.

Pastor Steve Cassell is seeking a temporary restraining order to stop him from being arrested if he holds a service at the beginning of May.

Germany: Pensioner evicted from his home to make room for migrants

A pensioner in Germany was fighting in court against his local council’s decision to evict him from his home to make room for migrants. The court has now upheld the council’s order.

Klaus Roth, 75, lives in Neckartailfingen near Stuttgart with his partner, who is 73. Neckartailfingen is a village of approximately 3,800 residents. More than a year ago, the village, which was already hosting 40 migrants, was instructed to take in even more of them.

The Esslingen District Council, which holds jurisdiction over Neckartailfingen, decided that Roth’s flat, which consists of six rooms over 150 square meters, should be seized and converted into a reception centre to accommodate the additional migrants. A court ruling from the 1990s gives councils the power to confiscate property for this purpose

Roth, who has been living in the flat for 25 years, refused to leave and challenged his eviction in Nürtingen District Court. Roth has suffered several heart attacks and also has asthma and diabetes. He is also quite popular in the village, where he volunteers to assist his fellow senior citizens. Roth has even shown his support for migrants in the past — in 2015, he worked in the local working group which helped asylum-seekers to find accommodations when the migrant crisis first erupted.

The court, however, has decided in favor of the council, according to a report by Junge Freiheit. In the court’s decision, it cited the size of Roth’s flat and said that it was reasonable for him to live in a smaller one. While the court acknowledged that the eviction was a hardship for Roth, they assert that it “does not outweigh the landlord’s legitimate interests.”
