"Undocumented equations. Much of the code consists of formulas for which no purpose is given. John Carmack (a legendary video-game programmer) surmised that some of the code might have been automatically translated from FORTRAN some years ago. For example, on line 510 of SetupModel.cpp there is a loop over all the “places” the simulation knows about. This code appears to be trying to calculate R0 for “places”. Hotels are excluded during this pass, without explanation."

I actually heard a real audible voice, as though there was someone else in the room! It was in a very soft voice, almost whispering–it also had a distinct vocal fry, and it sounded like it was coming from right behind where I was sitting! It said this:

The Texas Supreme Court on Thursday granted a motion to release Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther, who was sentenced to seven days in jail for defying orders to keep her business closed during the pandemic.

 

The order came soon after Gov. Greg Abbott announced he was modifying his recent executive orders related to the coronavirus pandemic to eliminate jail time for Texans who violate them. The move by Abbott was an attempt to release Luther, and prevent the jailing of others who have violated similar orders in recent weeks.

Luther, who state district Judge Eric Moyé found in contempt of court earlier this week, kept her Salon a la Mode running while violating local stay-at-home orders and despite receiving a cease-and-desist letter from Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins, as well as a temporary restraining order Moyé signed that told Luther her business must remain closed.

 

“Throwing Texans in jail who have had their businesses shut down through no fault of their own is nonsensical, and I will not allow it to happen,” Abbott said in a statement, adding that his order is retroactive to April 2 and supersedes local directives. "As some county judges advocate for releasing hardened criminals from jail to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it is absurd to have these business owners take their place.”

 

Abbott in his statement also mentioned that his modifications “may also ensure” that others in similar cases “should not be subject to confinement.” Abbott referenced Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata, who last month were arrested and charged with violating the community’s emergency management plan, according to the Laredo Morning Times.

The Laredo Police Department said it would respond to Abbott's announcement soon, while a spokesperson for Dallas County was not immediately available for comment.

 

Abbott's order Thursday comes a day after he and other top Texas Republicans weighed in on the controversy surrounding Luther, with the governor saying that Moyé had taken "excessive action" and suggesting that "there are less restrictive means" than jailing Luther. At the time though, Abbott did not indicate whether he planned to wade in further — which disgruntled some hardline Republicans who had been calling on the governor to commute Luther's sentence.

 

Attorney General Ken Paxton, meanwhile, called for Luther's immediate release in a statement and in a letter to Moyé on Wednesday.

 

“I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge … would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” Paxton said, calling Moyé’s order to jail and fine Luther thousands of dollars “a shameful abuse of judicial discretion.”

 

Later Wednesday, Moyé, along with the 11 other state civil district judges in Dallas County, signed onto a letter to Paxton calling his correspondence "an ex parte communication about a pending case."

 

"In this context, for you to 'Urge' a Judge towards a particular substantive outcome in this matter is most inappropriate and equally unwelcome," read the letter, which was reported by WFAA. "Please do not communicate with the Court in this manner further."

Suppose you are with Jeff Sessions (Rosenstein), Donald Trump, and Robert Mueller sitting in Trump's office the day before Mueller is appointed Special Counsel, this happened.

 

Nobody knows for sure what was discussed but suppose you need to find a way to properly investigate the people that spied on Trump's campaign without it being made to look political or like retribution by the Democrats and media?

 

You need the people appointing investigators and running the show to appear like they are not on Trump's side so that the Democrats or the media do not interfere with their efforts. This also while not alerting the people they are investigating. You do not yank the security clearances or fire the people being investigated yet.

 

You keep them on so they can be legally spied upon by intelligence and questioned by the IG.

 

When you are done with them you fire them with recommendations by the IG and Jeff Sessions and appoint a prosecutor (Durham) to look into the charges.

 

This almost goes unnoticed because the Dems and media are laser focused on Mueller.

 

Mueller hires lots of obviously partisan Democrats and gives them free reign to investigate Trump knowing there are no crimes. Democrats and media salivate over this daily, they just know Trump is done for now.

 

Next you continue a very public battle with Trump to show the media and bad actors that everything is Ok, Trump is definitely going down, that nobody in the DoJ is listening to Trump's crazy suggestions. Same with Mueller, Trump savages him regularly and makes fun of Sessions. Sessions leaves and Barr is appointed in his place. Mueller recommends no charges against Trump but leaves a little wishy washy wiggle room with Obstruction to show he is still against Trump.

 

Mueller now done after giving a very deliberately horribly weak presentation of his case to Congress Barr dismisses Obstruction as a legitimate charge against Trump.

 

Durham investigation continues and is independent and free of questionable influence, he was appointed by Sessions that Trump hates and made resign.

 

Durham brings down the bad actors with protection by Barr.

 

This is a small analysis with just some of what happened but it is a good overview of how a string operation is implemented by very smart and seasoned law enforcement.

The police report says Gregory McMichael told officers he and his son first tried to stop Arbery by shouting, “Stop, stop, we want to talk to you!” The father claimed that Arbery attacked his son and they got into a struggle for a shotgun. Police said the son fired two shots.

 

Arbery's family maintains he was simply out for a jog at the time.

The Supreme Court of the United States unanimously overturned convictions of two former aides to former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Both had been convicted nearly four years ago for their roles in the “Bridgegate” scandal.

 

 

Former Christie aides Bridget Kelly and Bill Baroni were convicted of federal crimes after reapportioning traffic lanes in Fort Lee, New Jersey in an apparent act of payback against a mayor that refused to support Christie’s re-election bid in 2013. The high court heard oral arguments in January, and all nine members ultimately agreed to toss Kelly and Baroni’s convictions Thursday.

 

Justice Elena Kagan, writing for the court, wrote that Kelly and Baroni’s decisions could not be prosecuted under federal law.

 

“For no reason other than political payback, Baroni and Kelly used deception to reduce Fort Lee’s access lanes to the George Washington Bridge — and thereby jeopardized the safety of the town’s residents. But not every corrupt act by state or local officials is a federal crime,” Kagan wrote.

 

Kagan added that Kelly and Baroni could not be prosecuted for making what the court said was a regulatory decision.

 

“They did so, according to all the Government’s evidence, for bad reasons; and they did so by resorting to lies,” the justice wrote of Kelly and Baroni’s decision. “But still, what they did was alter a regulatory decision about the toll plaza’s use — in effect, about which drivers had a ‘license’ to use which lanes.”

 

Christie has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in the case, but the scandal is widely believed to have played a role in derailing his political career, particularly his 2016 presidential campaign. Christie left office after two terms as one of the most unpopular governors in the U.S.

The number of deaths has begun going down in the state, but Newsom has only doubled down, announcing Monday he was training as many as 20,000 people – “an army and a workforce” – to begin tracking down COVID-19 cases.

Newsom announced that the “army” – his word – will start with a deployment of 3,000 and grow to the 20,000 mark to chase down who, what, where, and with whom COVID positive people have had connections. To what end? Newsom said, “the tracing component requires workforce and to identify individuals who tested positive…to ID their contacts (with privacy) and maybe quarantine individuals to stop the spread of the disease.”

He means forcible quarantine.

On Wednesday, the soft voice of Ventura County Health Director Robert Levin confirmed that the forcible quarantines are underway. He announced a “pilot program that will grow into a larger program” and “we will find everyone with COVID-19 and we will isolate every one of them and we will make sure that they stay quarantined and we will check in with them every day. In other words, what this program means is we’re going to do a more complete job, we’re going to do a more meticulous job of making it less and less possible for others in the county to run into someone with COVID-19 infection.”

Ventura County has hardly been overwhelmed with the virus. Out of its 846,000-person population, Ventura County has had 19 deaths from COVID-19. Most of them occurred in hospitals.

Levin attempted to put a happy face on removing people from their homes because, after all, everybody’s doing it.

This is occurring in many, many other states as well and perhaps all the states in our country.

But other states aren’t doing this. There are 19 deaths in the county since this outbreak visited itself upon us from Wuhan.

Abbott announced he was eliminating confinement as a punishment for violating the emergency orders over COVID-19, and said they would apply retroactively.

Coronavirus survivors banned from joining the military

 

As the Defense Department negotiates its way through the coronavirus pandemic and its fallout, military entrance processing stations are working with new guidance when it comes to bringing COVID-19 survivors into the services.

 

A past COVID-19 diagnosis is a no-go for processing, according to a recently released MEPCOM memo circulating on Twitter.

 

“During the medical history interview or examination, a history of COVID-19, confirmed by either a laboratory test or a clinician diagnosis, is permanently disqualifying …” the memo reads.

 

The memo is authentic, Pentagon spokeswoman Jessica Maxwell confirmed to Military Times.

 

Specifically, it lays out guidelines for MEPS staff to deal with potential, as well as confirmed, coronavirus cases. That starts with screening at all MEPS, which includes taking a temperature and answering questions about symptoms and potential contact.

 

If an applicant fails screening, according to the memo, they won’t be tested, but they can return in 14 days if they’re symptom-free. Anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 will have to wait until 28 days after diagnosis to report to MEPS.

 

Upon return, a diagnosis will be marked as “permanently disqualifying” for accession. Recruits can apply for waivers for all permanently disqualifying conditions, including surviving COVID-19. However, without any further guidance for exceptions dealing with COVID-19, a review authority would have no justification to grant a waiver.

 

Maxwell declined to explain why a coronavirus diagnosis would be permanently disqualifying, compared to other viral, non-chronic illnesses that do not preclude military service.

Illinois Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker told reporters on Wednesday churches in his state may not reopen for a year.

 

Pritzker must believe the First Amendment is optional.

 

As Cassandra Fairbanks previously reported an Illinois church filed a lawsuit against Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker in April for violating the First Amendment and the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

Germany: Pensioner evicted from his home to make room for migrants

 

A pensioner in Germany was fighting in court against his local council’s decision to evict him from his home to make room for migrants. The court has now upheld the council’s order.

 

Klaus Roth, 75, lives in Neckartailfingen near Stuttgart with his partner, who is 73. Neckartailfingen is a village of approximately 3,800 residents. More than a year ago, the village, which was already hosting 40 migrants, was instructed to take in even more of them.

 

The Esslingen District Council, which holds jurisdiction over Neckartailfingen, decided that Roth’s flat, which consists of six rooms over 150 square meters, should be seized and converted into a reception centre to accommodate the additional migrants. A court ruling from the 1990s gives councils the power to confiscate property for this purpose

 

Roth, who has been living in the flat for 25 years, refused to leave and challenged his eviction in Nürtingen District Court. Roth has suffered several heart attacks and also has asthma and diabetes. He is also quite popular in the village, where he volunteers to assist his fellow senior citizens. Roth has even shown his support for migrants in the past — in 2015, he worked in the local working group which helped asylum-seekers to find accommodations when the migrant crisis first erupted.

 

The court, however, has decided in favor of the council, according to a report by Junge Freiheit. In the court’s decision, it cited the size of Roth’s flat and said that it was reasonable for him to live in a smaller one. While the court acknowledged that the eviction was a hardship for Roth, they assert that it “does not outweigh the landlord’s legitimate interests.”
