“With today’s action and every action to come, the Trump administration will fight for America’s students.” – President Donald J. Trump

 

TAKING HISTORIC ACTION: President Donald J. Trump is ensuring that all students are safe to learn and achieve without facing sexual harassment and sexual assault in our Nation’s schools.

 

  • Today, the Department of Education is issuing a final regulation to strengthen Title IX protections for survivors of sexual misconduct and fight sex misconduct in schools.

  • For the first time in history, the new regulation will codify that sexual harassment, including sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking, is prohibited under Title IX.

  • This new regulation will hold schools accountable for failures to respond equitably and promptly to incidents of sexual misconduct.

  • The action also empowers survivors to make decisions about how a school responds to incidents of sexual harassment.

  • This rulemaking follows years of wide-ranging research, careful deliberation, and careful input from stakeholders — including survivors— and over 124,000 public comments.

 

ENSURING EVEN-HANDED JUSTICE: The President’s new rules will also ensure that schools can no longer inflict longstanding harm against students before providing basic, fair procedures.

  • Today’s final regulation will also provide due process protections to students facing accusations of sexual misconduct.

  • Bureaucracy created in our Nation’s institutions of higher education have often stacked the deck against the accused, failing to offer protections such as a presumption of innocence or adequate ability to rebut allegations.

  • The regulation prescribes a transparent grievance process that treats the accused as innocent until proven guilty, requires the school to state a standard of evidence, and requires the school to provide a written decision and rationale.

  • Recognizing that colleges often fail to provide due process, Federal courts reviewing campus adjudications have stepped in to issue more than 100 decisions favorable to the accused.

  • Today’s protections will legitimize the process and support survivors, including by ensuring that final findings of responsibility are credible.

 

MAKING OUR SCHOOLS SAFER: The Trump Administration is working every day to protect America’s students and survivors of sexual misconduct.

  • Under the President’s leadership, the Department of Education has aggressively worked to hold schools accountable for sexual harassment in their education programs and activities.

  • Already, the Trump Administration has required sweeping reforms at educational institutions, including Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University, the University of Southern California, and Chicago Public Schools.

  • The Department of Education has led implementation of Every Student Succeeds Act rules that prohibit elementary and secondary school district administrators from shifting from one school to another employees who sexually abuse students.

  • Over the last three years, the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights has closed a total of 172 sexual violence cases with change, a 375 percent increase over the prior 8 years.

We have the same thing happening here. I think the attention whores are running rampant. I'm not saying they are not busy but I think alot of them ran scared causing a staff shortage making them busier at work, not because of an influx of patients. My daughter went to the hospital with some stomach problems and have to give a stool sample which she dropped off later when it was quiet. The lab guy took the sample with no gloves, mask or any PPE and even gave her his pen to write her name on the sample, took it back and put it in his pocket. He was not concerned about his own health in the least and he's the guy testing for this stuff.

Russian billionaire Dmitry Bosov, whose core asset was a major coal company, was found dead Wednesday in an apparent suicide near his home in the Moscow region, local officials say. He was 52 years old.

 

A spokeswoman for Russia’s Investigative Committee told the Interfax news agency that relatives found Bosov with a gunshot wound to the head near his home in the town of Usovo.

 

A law enforcement source told the TASS news agency that investigators believe Bosov had committed suicide. A Glock 19 Gen 4 pistol was found near his body, according to Interfax.

 

Other details were not immediately known.

 

Bosov’s net worth was estimated to be $1.1 billion at the time of his death, according to Forbes magazine. His core assets were VostokCoal and the Sibanthracite Group, which unites several coal produces in Siberia. He and a partner also co-founded a company called Blackspace in 2015

Los Alamos Nat’l Lab report shows dominant COVID-19 strain can reinfect survivors

 

 

A team led by New Mexico scientists says the strain of COVID-19 we are dealing with now, is much more contagious than the original version that arose in China. It can even infect someone again once they have recovered.

 

A new study spearheaded by Los Alamos National Labs shows the virus mutated and became stronger when it reached Europe in February. It spread to the U.S. from there, becoming the dominant strain worldwide. On top of the potential to reinfect, the newer strain also spread faster and creates more of a virus in the body.

 

According to the report, research on vaccines and treatments so far has been largely based on the genetic sequences of earlier strains and might no longer apply. The report does not indicate that the new strain is any more deadly with hospitalization rates remaining about the same.

 

The report 33-page report was published on bioRxiv, which is a website that researchers use to share their work before it is peer-reviewed. The Los Angeles Times recently cited the study, stating that the report was published in an effort to expedite collaborations with scientists who are in the process of working on vaccines and treatments for COVID-19.

 

The FDA approved the emergency use of remdesivir last week to treat the virus. Remdesivir is an anti-viral drug that is being used to treat patients with COVID-19.

 

Scientists say that a vaccine for the virus is most likely a year or more away.

Grenell Gives Schiff Ultimatum: 'Release Secret Russiagate Transcripts Or I Will'

 

Acting Director of National Security Richard Grenell has given Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) an ultimatum; release 53 the transcripts from 53 secret interviews conducted by the House Intelligence Committee's Trump-Russia investigation, or Grenell will do it through the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, according to the Washington Examiner.

 

In a letter to Schiff, Grenell noted that the transcripts of all 53 interviews - consisting of more than 6,000 pages, have been cleared for public release.

 

"All of the transcripts, with our required redactions, can be released to the public without any concerns of disclosing classified material," wrote Grenell in the May 4 letter.

 

The Intel Committee did the first probe into Russia's 2016 campaign interference and allegations of Trump-Russia collusion. Even today, its findings make up most of what we know about the affair. As part of that investigation it was run by then-majority Republicans the committee interviewed some key witnesses in the Trump-Russia matter: Donald Trump Jr., Steve Bannon, Andrew McCabe, Sally Yates, Michael Cohen, Hope Hicks, and many more. -Washington Examiner

 

The decision to make the transcripts public was reached in September 2018, when the House was still controlled by the GOP, with the caveat that they would need to be first checked by the Intelligence Community for classified information.

 

Two weeks ago, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Intelligence Community had finished reviewing 43 of the transcripts, but that Schiff was sitting on them - and had prevented declassification of the remaining ten transcripts.

 

In fact, Grenell reveals in his letter that Schiff has been sitting on the 43 transcripts since June 2019. With the remaining 10 cleared, Grenell wrote:

 

"I urge you to honor your previous public statements, and your committee's unanimous vote on this matter, to release all 53 cleared transcripts to Members of Congress and the American public as soon as possible," adding "I am also willing to release the transcripts directly from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, as to ensure we comply with the unanimous and bipartisan vote to release the transcripts."

U.S. tells WTO 'no valid basis' for EU tariffs in Boeing-Airbus subsidy fight

 

The United States told the World Trade Organization on Wednesday it has fully complied with WTO findings that Washington state’s now-repealed tax breaks for Boeing (BA.N) were illegal and there was “no valid basis” for the European Union to retaliate against U.S. goods. The formal submission to the WTO aims to neutralize the EU’s demand for retaliatory demands for some $10 billion annual retaliatory tariffs in a long-running Boeing-Airbus (AIR.PA) subsidy dispute, the U.S. Trade Representative’s office said.

 

The WTO last year granted Boeing the ability to levy tariffs on $7.5 billion worth of EU goods, including aircraft, wines and cheeses, due to Airbus subsidies deemed illegal. USTR raised tariffs on Airbus planes to 15% from 10% on March 17, but many airlines are delaying deliveries as the coronavirus pandemic has halted most travel.

 

Washington state’s legislature in March repealed the preferential aerospace tax break first introduced 16 years ago, which saved Boeing some $118 million in 2018 based on published jetliner revenues. “With Washington State’s repeal of this relatively minor tax reduction, the United States has fully implemented the WTO’s recommendation, ending this dispute,” U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said in a statement. “This step ensures that there is no valid basis for the EU to retaliate against any U.S. goods.”

 

The WTO is widely expected to issue a decision on the EU retaliation demands in June. Meanwhile EU officials have emphasized their desire to negotiate an end to the dispute, which dates back to 2004. An Airbus spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment on the USTR notification.

 

Boeing last week declined to seek aid from the U.S. government $17 billion coronavirus relief fund for aerospace and other national security-linked firms after it raised $25 billion in a corporate bond offering.

 

USTR launched formal negotiations with Britain on Tuesday for a post-Brexit free trade agreement between the transatlantic allies.

It was buried eight paragraphs into a recent Politico exposé on foreign efforts to infiltrate Silicon Valley, as a passing example of political espionage:

 

Former intelligence officials…[said] Chinese intelligence once recruited a staff member at a California office of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, and the source reported back to China about local politics. (A spokesperson for Feinstein said the office doesn’t comment on personnel matters or investigations, but noted that no Feinstein staffer in California has ever had a security clearance.)

 

Later comes additional detail

 

According to four former intelligence officials, in the 2000s, a staffer in Senator Dianne Feinstein’s San Francisco field office was reporting back to the MSS [China’s Ministry of State Security, its intelligence and security apparatus]. While this person, who was a liaison to the local Chinese community, was fired, charges were never filed against him. (One former official reasoned this was because the staffer was providing political intelligence and not classified information—making prosecution far more difficult.) The suspected informant was ‘run’ by officials based at China’s San Francisco Consulate, said another former intelligence official. The spy’s handler ‘probably got an award back in China’ for his work, noted this former official, dryly.

 

This anecdote provides significantly more questions than answers. For starters: Who was the spy? For how long was the spy under surveillance? What information about “local politics” was the spy passing back to China? Just how close was the spy to the senator? Did law enforcement officials sweep vehicles and other areas for listening devices? Was there an investigation into whether others in the senator’s circle may have been coordinating with Beijing?

 

Did the senator expose herself to potential blackmail, or the public to danger through leakage of sensitive, highly classified information? Is firing really the proper punishment for providing political intelligence to a foreign power?

Now, the Registrar is a man named "Mr. Jianguang Sun", but using the cached version, it shows Mr. Hao Gu as the Registrar on the date April 21, 2020.

That was my post. You do make a good point but this is where the lines get blurred for me. I'm looking at social media here in Canada and the reaction to the new gun laws. Most people have no idea what they are supporting other than GUNS BAD. They refuse to look at facts, data and the reality of existing gun laws. These people seem to be the majority here and I really wished they were more informed because they are the ones who will perpetuate the problem through their vote.

‘No knowledge of this’: CBS denies STAGING long line at Covid-19 test center after Project Veritas claim

 

CBS has denied claims that it “staged” a long line at a Covid-19 test center in Michigan and blamed the facility for adding “at least one” person to the line itself. The network was accused of faking the moment by Project Veritas.

 

CBS News President Susan Zirinsky said in a statement that the news crew "did not stage anything" at the Cherry Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan and "any suggestion to the contrary is 100% false."

 

Project Veritas’s James O’Keefe claimed on Wednesday that CBS News This Morning asked medical personnel at the center to line up in their cars to make the testing line outside appear longer.

 

In a video posted to PV's social media, an "insider" at the medical center confirmed "a hundred percent, absolutely" that the network staged the line for the Friday May 1 report. A corporate cleaning site supervisor also said that the crew "wanted more people in the line because they knew it was scheduled."

 

A nurse at the center, recorded on hidden camera, said that staff had “no clue that we were going to have to, like, do fake patients.” Another nurse, also recorded on hidden camera, said there were a couple of real patients in the line, too, “which made it worse.”

 

“The insider told us that medical personnel were taken away from treating patients and making the line longer for actual patients waiting for the COVID-19 test,” O’Keefe claimed.

 

CBS said it reached out to the facility when it was made aware of the allegations and were told that in fact a chief officer made the decision to add to the real line.

 

“[The center] informed us for the first time that one of their chief officers told at least one staffer to get in the testing line along with real patients,” the network said, adding that “no one from CBS News had any knowledge of this before tonight.”

 

“We take the accuracy of our reporting very seriously and we are removing the Cherry Health portion from the piece,” the network added. Cherry Health President and CEO Tasha Blackmon told Project Veritas that "we and CBS News had nothing to do with that line."

PM Johnson says UK hopes to EASE some lockdown measures on Monday

 

Boris Johnson has revealed that some of the UK’s Covid-19 restrictions could be rolled back on Monday. However, the prime minister warned that it would be an “economic disaster” if relaxing the rules sparked a spike in cases.

 

Facing off against new Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer at Prime Minister’s Questions for the first time on Wednesday, Johnson said that he wants some lockdown easing measures to come into force from Monday.

 

Johnson, who endured a lengthy spell in intensive care after contracting the coronavirus, said that he will address the nation on Sunday to outline the changes.

 

“The reason for that is very simple. We have to be sure that the data is going to support our ability to do this,” he explained. “We will want, if we possibly can, to get going with some of these measures on Monday.”

 

The prime minister added that parliament will then be updated on the plans on Monday. This timing prompted House of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle to remark that in the future he hopes that the house will be updated first.

 

In response to a question from Ian Blackford of the Scottish National Party, Johnson warned it would be an “economic disaster” to relax the lockdown in a way which triggered a second wave of Covid-19 cases.

 

Johnson’s remarks come after the UK’s Covid-19 death toll moved ahead of Italy’s to make it the European country which has been hardest-hit by the virus.

Italy: 183 migrants brought by NGO ships allowed to disembark despite ‘closed’ ports

 

After a two week quarantine on a cruise ship off the coast of Sicily, illegal migrants from the NGO ships Alan Kurdi and Aita Mari have been allowed to enter Italy, despite the country’s leftist-establishment government claiming last month that its ports would remain closed until July 31st.

 

On Monday, 181 migrants were allowed to leave the cruise ship ‘Raffaele Rubattino’ to land at a port in Palermo after they all tested negative for the Wuhan coronavirus, Italy News Agency reports.

 

Of the 183 illegal migrants that disembarked on Monday, only two were women. 146 came from the Alan Kurdi, a ship operated by the German NGO Sea-Eye, while the rest came from the Aita Mari, a vessel run by the Basque NGO Salvamento Marítimo Humanitario.

 

The migrants, after having set foot on Italian land, were transferred by bus to reception centers in Benevento and Salerno.

 

The successful disembarking of this group of migrants is only the latest victory for NGO migrant transport ships over Italy’s leftist-establishment coalition government.

 

As Voice of Europe reported in April, a decree was signed by Italy’s interior, foreign, health, and transport ministers which allegedly “closed” the country’s ports to NGO migrant transport ships, at least, until July 31st.

 

“For the entire duration of the national health emergency that has resulted from the spread of the COVID-19 virus, Italian ports do not ensure the necessary requirements for the classification and definition of ” Place of Safety”, the decree reads.

 

On Tuesday, deaths from the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic in Italy climbed by 236 compared to 195 on Monday, the Civil Protection Agency said, while the daily tally of new cases came in at 1,075 compared to 1,221 on Monday. Despite these numbers, Italy continues to allow illegal migrants into the country.

 

While the crew of the Aita Mari has already announced its desire to organize a new “migrant rescue” mission, it’s likely that the Alan Kurdi plans on doing the same.

Swedish doctor: Elderly suffering from Wuhan virus being refused oxygen (VIDEO)

 

A Swedish doctor has embarked on a crusade to show that his country’s authorities are deliberately denying elderly patients oxygen treatments that could save their lives if they are suffering from Wuhan virus (COVID-19) infection.

 

Dr Jon Tallinger, who goes by the name “Whistleblower MD” on social media, is a General Practitioner at a clinic in Tranås, in the province of Småland in southern Sweden. He cares for approximately 2,000 patients. Yesterday he appeared on the Angry Foreigner YouTube channel to talk about his discoveries because no mainstream Swedish news source has been willing to carry his story.

 

Tallinger says that the authorities in his county sent a video to medical staff in nursing homes on how to deal with Wuhan virus patients. In the video, doctors are instructed not to send infected elderly patients suffering from respiratory problems to hospitals, and to treat them only with morphine for anxiety. Oxygen treatment is never mentioned, despite the fact that suffocation is the most common way for patients to die from the infection. Tallinger says that this means that, under these instructions, many elderly patients will suffocate to death. He says this is a clear indication that the authorities are denying care to the elderly that might save their lives.

 

Since Tallinger first came forward with information about these orders on his Facebook page, documents have been leaked from other counties in Sweden which clearly state that oxygen should not be administered to elderly patients suffering from respiratory problems resulting from the virus.

 

Tallinger also indicates that it isn’t only the elderly who are threatened by this order, but many types of patients with chronic disorders, such as Down’s Syndrome sufferers, who are also particularly vulnerable to oxygen deprivation.

 

In the video, Tallinger states that this order is a clear “human rights violation,” and that it “should be treated as a crime and prosecuted.”

 

Tallinger estimates that approximately two-thirds of virus patients in nursing homes could be saved with oxygen treatment. Without it, he says upwards of 15,000 patients may die unnecessarily. If a strong effort to administer oxygen to patients is initiated, Tallinger says, “we won’t save everyone, but we did all we could.”

 

Tallinger also pointed out that many nursing homes in Sweden don’t have oxygen equipment at all, and that unlike other countries, medical staff who work around the elderly often wear little to no protective gear, which puts their patients at greater risk of being infected by exposure to their own caregivers.

 

While a few other health professionals have expressed support for Tallinger since he came forward, most regard him as a traitor, and he says that he will most likely never be allowed to work in state-funded facilities again. He said that he understands people’s hesitancy to support him given the risk to their careers that it involves; he mentioned one supporter who was forced to withdraw his statement after he was threatened with a lawsuit by his employer.

 

It has become “dangerous to speak your mind in Sweden,” Tallinger says, adding that the country is becoming more dangerous at an accelerating rate for people who speak the truth.

 

Tallinger says that he will only be able to force the Swedish authorities to change this policy by obtaining corroborating evidence of the practice from as many sources as possible, and urges people who have relevant information to contact him.

 

Tallinger refers to the state’s oxygen policy as a “systematic human rights abuse of the elderly and the weak.”

 

A document that was leaked to the press last month showed that hospitals in Stockholm are being instructed not to give the elderly the same priority for intensive care as other patients, as previously reported by Voice of Europe. When asked about this, however, Tallinger stressed that oxygen care is not the same as intensive care, and that the two orders are not related.

Gavin Newsom: California ‘Not Going Back to Normal’ Until We Have a Vaccine

 

 

Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) on Tuesday warned that, while California will move into the next phase of reopening its economy this week, it is “not going back to normal” until there is a vaccine.

 

Newsom this week announced that the state will move into the next phase of its recovery plan by Friday, May 8, allowing certain businesses — like bookstores, flower shops, clothing stores, and sporting goods stores — to reopen with certain modifications, which will be provided this week. According to the governor, offices and dine-in restaurants “will be part of a later Stage 2 opening.”

 

Per his office:

 

The announcement for Friday does not include offices, seated dining at restaurants, shopping malls or schools. As the Governor noted last week, the state is working with school districts and the California education community to determine how best and safely to reopen. That continues to be the case – this May 8 announcement does not move up this timeline.

 

Newsom’s office noted that individual counties “can choose to continue more restrictive measures in place based on their local conditions.”

 

Despite the slow and steady effort to return to a place of pre-virus normalcy, Newsom told Californians on Tuesday that the state will not return to normal until “we get to immunity and a vaccine.”

 

“We’re not going back to normal. It’s a new normal with adaptations and modifications, until we get to immunity and a vaccine,” the governor said during Tuesday’s press briefing.

 

While researchers are working on a vaccine for COVID-19 specifically, no vaccine for other forms of coronavirus have ever been approved, casting doubt on the efforts.

 

Christopher Whitty, the U.K.’s Chief Medical Officer, told a parliamentary committee last month that there are no guarantees in the development of a vaccine.

 

We need “to be careful that we don’t assume that we are going to have a vaccine for this disease as we have had for, let’s say measles, which once you have it you’re protected for life,” he said, according to Business Insider, adding, “We cannot guarantee success.”

 

President Trump, meanwhile, remains hopeful, telling reporters over the weekend that America will likely have a vaccine by the end of the year.

I have no recollection of what happened but was told I was very lucky to be alive. I do know that I get nudges, physical and emotional/spiritual all the time. I also receive very comforting messages from beyond the human mind, not words but communications of a sort. (a) Establishment.—Not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Director of National Intelligence shall establish a task force to study and assess the illicit financing of espionage and foreign influence operations directed at the United States.

 

(b) Membership.—The task force shall be composed of the following individuals (or designees of the individual):

 

(1) The Director of the Central Intelligence Agency.

 

(2) The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

(3) The Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Intelligence and Analysis.

 

(4) The Assistant Secretary of State for Intelligence and Research.

 

(5) Such other heads of the elements of the intelligence community that the Director of National Intelligence determines appropriate.

 

(c) Chairperson; Meetings.—

 

(1) CHAIRPERSON.—The Director of National Intelligence shall appoint a senior official within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to serve as the chairperson of the task force.

 

(2) MEETINGS.—The task force shall meet regularly but not less frequently than on a quarterly basis.

 

(d) Reports.—

 

(1) INITIAL REPORT.—Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the task force shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees a report on the illicit financing of espionage and foreign influence operations directed at the United States. The report shall address the following:

 

(A) The extent of the collection by the intelligence community, from all sources (including the governments of foreign countries), of intelligence and information relating to illicit financing of espionage and foreign influence operations directed at the United States, and any gaps in such collection.

 

(B) Any specific legal, regulatory, policy, or other prohibitions, or financial, human, technical, or other resource limitations or constraints, that have affected the ability of the Director of National Intelligence or other heads of relevant elements of the intelligence community in collecting or analyzing intelligence or information relating to illicit financing of espionage and foreign influence operations directed at the United States.

 

(C) The methods, as of the date of the report, by which hostile governments of foreign countries or foreign organizations, and any groups or persons acting on behalf of or with the support of such governments or organizations, seek to disguise or obscure relationships between such governments, organizations, groups, or persons and United States persons, for the purpose of conducting espionage or foreign influence operations directed at the United States, including by exploiting financial laws, systems, or instruments, of the United States.

 

(D) The existing practices of the intelligence community for ensuring that intelligence and information relating to the illicit financing of espionage and foreign influence operations is analyzed and shared with other elements of the intelligence community, and any recommendations for improving such analysis and sharing.

 

(2) ANNUAL UPDATE.—Not later than November 1, 2020, and each year thereafter through the date specified in subsection (e), the task force shall submit to the appropriate congressional committees an update on the report under paragraph (1).

 

(3) FORM.—Each report submitted under this subsection may be submitted in classified form, but if submitted in such form, shall include an unclassified summary.

 

(e) Termination.—The task force shall terminate on January 1, 2025.

 

(f) Appropriate Congressional Committees Defined.—In this section, the term “appropriate congressional committees” means the following:

 

(1) The congressional intelligence committees.

 

(2) The Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Financial Services of the House of Representatives.

Eshkol, caught off guard by the tone of the telegram, took seven weeks to assent, and the twice-yearly inspections continued until 1969 when President Richard Nixon ended them.

 

Also revealed in the trove of documents the NSA posted is the origin of Israel’s oft-repeated credo that it would not be the first to introduce nuclear weapons — a deliberately ambiguous statement that left Israel room to develop the weapons, but not arm them.

 

Shimon Peres, then the deputy defense minister who later would lead the country as prime minister for two stints and then become president, improvised the statement when he was surprised by Kennedy during a meeting Peres had scheduled with Kennedy’s adviser, Myer Feldman, who also functioned as the administration’s liaison to Israel and the U.S. Jewish community. Unbeknownst to Peres, Kennedy and Feldman had planned the “surprise” encounter.

 

According to a Hebrew-language Foreign Ministry of Israel account of the April 2 meeting, Kennedy asked Peres into the Oval Office for 30 minutes and questioned him on Israel’s nuclear capacity.

 

“You know that we follow very closely the discovery of any nuclear development in the region,” Kennedy said. “This could create a very dangerous situation. For this reason, we monitor your nuclear effort. What could you tell me about this?”

 

Peres improvised, “I can tell you most clearly that we will not introduce nuclear weapons to the region, and certainly we will not be the first.”

Cuomo to Join with Common Core’s Bill Gates Foundation to ‘Reimagine’ Education

 

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) announced Tuesday his state will partner with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to “reimagine” its school system as New Yorkers navigate toward a post-coronavirus “new normal.”

 

Cuomo said New York will work with the Gates Foundation – the primary private financier and promoter of the Obama-era Common Core State Standards – because “the old model of our education system where everyone sits in a classroom is not going to work in the new normal.”

 

The governor said, when schools reopen, he wants to “reimagine” them.

 

“[T]o do that, we are collaborating with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and exploring smart, innovative education alternatives” that utilize new technology, Cuomo added.

 

Without any taxpayer oversight, Gates and his foundation spearheaded the most recent progressive initiative known as the Common Core State Standards, by spending upwards of $250 million in grants to test consortia, nonprofits, teachers’ unions, and political groups eager to cash in on the new scheme.

 

Democrat and Republican lawmakers and governors of 46 states signed onto what was touted as “rigorous” K-12 uniform math and English language arts academic standards that would drive the performance of U.S. students upward and eliminate the achievement gap between white and Asian students and their classmates who were largely black and Hispanic.

 

In October 2015, Gates renewed his foundation’s commitment to Common Core, asserting, “we are on the right track.”

 

“There’s one other pivotal step in the movement for strong feedback and improvement systems, and that is the adoption of high, consistent academic standards throughout the country,” the Microsoft founder said at a U.S. Education forum in Seattle. “Today 42 states and the District of Columbia are using the Common Core State Standards.”

 

However, ten years after states adopted Common Core, a study released last week by the Boston-based Pioneer Institute revealed the historic drop in national reading and math scores on the Nation’s Report Card.

 

“Nearly a decade after states adopted Common Core, the empirical evidence makes it clear that these national standards have yielded underwhelming results for students,” said Pioneer executive director Jim Stergios in a statement. “The proponents of this expensive, legally questionable policy initiative have much to answer for.”

 

The study, titled “The Common Core Debacle” and authored by education policy researcher Theodor Rebarber, noted the “shocking trends” in American student performance in reading and math and, particularly, the further decline in performance of the nation’s lowest achieving students – many from black and Hispanic communities with failing schools.

 

Rebarber observed many education policy researchers have known since Common Core was introduced, that its “deeply flawed educational assumptions,” were “at odds with curriculum standards in top-achieving countries.”

 

Other national education leaders have lamented the expansion of the achievement gap, rather than its shrinking, as promoters of Common Core, such as Bill Gates, promised.
