Bipartisan group of lawmakers press Trump to issue executive order moving drug manufacturing out of China

by Zachary Halaschak May 08, 2020 01:59 PM

A bipartisan slate of lawmakers is calling on President Trump to issue an executive order requiring that the government purchase only medical equipment and pharmaceuticals made in the United States.

The small group sent a letter to the White House on Thursday outlining why the lawmakers believe an executive order targeting China would be a good move by the administration. The letter, spearheaded by Republican Rep. Vicky Hartzler of Missouri and Democratic Rep. John Garamendi of California, was co-signed by seven other Republican members of Congress.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed a serious vulnerability for both national security and public health,” the letter reads. “There is bipartisan support in Congress for ending our nation’s reliance on China for pharmaceuticals and their ingredients.”

“China is the principal developer of active pharmaceutical ingredients [APIs] for generic prescription drugs, which account for approximately 90 percent of pharmaceuticals used in the United States. Right now, China has the ability to attack the United States without firing a single shot by poisoning our nation’s medicines or cutting off access to the supply,” it adds.

Hartzler described just how many drugs are produced by China during a phone interview with Washington Examiner.

“America quit making aspirin in 2002. We quit making penicillin in 2004, and Chinese pharmaceutical companies now supply over 90% of the antibiotics in the United States, the vitamin C, ibuprofen — they provide 70% of acetaminophen and 40%-45% of the heparin that our country receives. And it just does not make sense to have our military contingent on China, who, through the national defense strategy, we have identified as our primary strategic adversary," she said.

Earlier this week, Trump trade adviser Peter Navarro said in an interview that the White House would soon issue an order to address the issue, although the timing remains unclear. Navarro said the order would mandate that the federal government only purchase medical products made in the U.S. The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House for further comment.

Navarro also said the coronavirus health crisis has laid bare how the U.S. relies on China for its medical products. Hartzler said she agrees.

“The coronavirus has further shown a light on the vulnerabilities not just for the military but for the entire country,” she said.

Hartzler, who sits with Garamendi on the House Armed Services Committee, said she has seen an upsurge of support for moving pharmaceutical production back to the U.S. given the pandemic.

“We have hearings on a regular basis, many of them classified, where we have been looking at what China is doing and the real threat they pose to our nation,” she said. “People are aware of this and calling [for] action to make us safer in the nation.”

The idea has received blowback from the pharmaceutical industry. A spokeswoman for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America told the Washington Examiner that it is "misleading to suggest biopharmaceutical manufacturers are reliant on any one country for any aspect of the manufacturing process."

Top Liberal Operative Funnels Millions From Super PAC to Her Private Firm

Tara McGowan, who runs dark money ACRONYM network, behind botched Iowa app

Joe Schoffstall - May 8, 2020 2:00 PM

Tara McGowan, the Democratic operative most closely associated with the technological fiasco that unfolded in the Iowa caucuses, has funneled nearly $2.4 million from her super PAC to her private firm. It is the latest in a series of transfers between entities in her dark money network.

New disclosure forms show that PACRONYM, a super PAC affiliated with McGowan's nonprofit ACRONYM—the dark money group behind the botched Iowa caucus app—spent close to $2.4 million on anti-Trump ads Wednesday night that will run in the key swing state of Pennsylvania. The money was sent to a for-profit digital consulting firm, Lockwood Strategy Lab, which is also part of McGowan's network.

McGowan's PAC has been active in an effort by Democratic groups to flood battleground states with ads criticizing President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic. The PAC's filings show that it has been heavily financed by the same wealthy liberal donors who also provide millions to a number of groups undertaking similar efforts.

The new expenditures are not the first time McGowan has funneled between the two groups. The super PAC had already sent nearly $1.5 million this cycle to the digital firm for media buys against Trump and $400,000 for digital consulting and survey research. The super PAC transferred $1 million to the firm during the 2018 election cycle. PACRONYM and Lockwood Strategy did not respond to a request for comment on the transfers.

McGowan, who previously worked for Priorities USA Action and President Obama's reelection campaign, created ACRONYM following the 2016 election to rival Trump's online operations. Under its umbrella are PACRONYM, Lockwood Strategy, Courier Newsroom, and technology firm Shadow Inc., which developed the app that failed in spectacular fashion during Iowa's Democratic caucuses. The Nevada Democratic Party abandoned the app following the Iowa debacle and ahead of its own caucuses.

While ACRONYM does not disclose its donors, some of its funders can be gleaned from public records. For example, Federal Election Commission filings show that the nonprofit received $300,000 from Nancy Pelosi's House Majority PAC in 2018. That same year, the super PAC received a $45,000 donation from billionaire Tom Steyer's NextGen Climate Action Committee, which also paid an additional $90,000 for data consulting services.

PACRONYM, on the other hand, must disclose its donors. So far this cycle, the super PAC has hauled in $9.6 million primarily from deep-pocketed individuals. Its biggest contributor is George Soros, whose Democracy PAC has pushed $1.75 million to the super PAC. Billionaire hedge fund investor Donald Sussman provided $1 million, putting him among the group's top donors. The PAC's money, in turn, has mainly been sent to Lockwood Strategy for ads, consulting services, and research.

It is unclear which entity pays McGowan and how much she collects. The super PAC reported making no payments to McGowan, and ACRONYM's most recent tax forms only show $16,000 paid to McGowan between the beginning of May 2017 and late April 2018. If McGowan is paid through Lockwood, the amount will most likely remain hidden.

With the millions it paid to Lockwood for the anti-Trump campaign, PACRONYM joins a number of other liberal groups spending big on similar efforts in battleground states.

Priorities USA Action, the largest Democratic super PAC backing Joe Biden's candidacy, has said it plans to spend upward of $150 million on the 2020 elections. The group has poured seven-figure sums into ads in the Midwest attacking Trump over coronavirus. Like PACRONYM, Priorities USA's top donors include Sussman ($8 million) and Soros ($5 million).

Liberal operative David Brock's American Bridge PAC, which recently joined forces with the pro-Biden Unite the Country PAC to form a $175 million coalition, has also spent millions attacking Trump in battleground states over COVID-19. Soros has given the PAC $2 million.

>Crowdstrike testimony re: DNC & Russia [hack]?

Justin Caruso - June 24, 2017 9:30 PM ET

CrowdStrike is the sole source of this claim, with their June 2016 report, “Bears in the Midst: Intrusion into the Democratic National Committee” <https://www.crowdstrike.com/blog/bears-midst-intrusion-democratic-national-committee/being the basis of the DNC’s Russian hacking allegations.

Here are five key points about CrowdStrike that the mainstream media is ignoring:

  1. Obama Appoints CrowdStrike Officer To Admin Post Two Months Before June 2016 Report On Russia Hacking DNC

In April 2016, two months before the June report that alleged a Russian conspiracy, former President Barack Obama appointed Steven Chabinsky, the general counsel and chief risk officer for CrowdStrike, to the Commission on Enhancing National Cybersecurity.

CrowdStrike co-founder George Kurtz said at the time, “We wish Steve and the rest of the Commissioners every success in this important effort. Their dedicated and thoughtful leadership on these issues holds great potential for promoting innovation and the benefits of technology, while lowering the very real security risks we are facing today.”

  1. The FBI Never Looked At The DNC’s Servers — Only CrowdStrike Did

As far as we know, the FBI still has not examined the DNC server that Russia allegedly hacked.

There has been no corroboration or second opinion on who may have hacked the server. The only source for this claim is CrowdStrike, who began monitoring the DNC system on May 5th, 2016, according to DailyMail.com.

The DNC also reportedly paid $168,000 to CrowdStrike.

  1. Comey Contradicted The DNC’s Story On The FBI Asking To See The Server

The DNC claimed in January that the reason the FBI never examined their hacked server was simple–the FBI never requested to do so. Yet, DNC deputy communications director Eric Walker gave told BuzzFeed News in an email, “The DNC had several meetings with representatives of the FBI’s Cyber Division and its Washington (DC) Field Office, the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, and U.S. Attorney’s Offices, and it responded to a variety of requests for cooperation, but the FBI never requested access to the DNC’s computer servers.”

However, this claim was contradicted by then-FBI director James Comey, who said in a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing in January that there were “multiple requests at different levels” to look at the DNC’s servers. Instead, Comey said a “highly respected private company” got access to the servers–meaning CrowdStrike.

  1. CrowdStrike Co-Founder Is Fellow On Russia Hawk Group, Has Connections To George Soros, Ukrainian Billionaire

Co-Founder and CTO of CrowdStrike Dmitri Alperovitch is a nonresident senior fellow on the Atlantic Council.

The Atlantic Council is hawkish on Russia, previously publishing reports about topics like how the West can “get tougher” on Russia, how to “fight back Against Russian political warfare,” how to respond “to Russia’s Anti-Western Aggression.”

  1. CrowdStrike Is Funded By Clinton-Loving Google $$

Finally, it’s worth pointing out that CrowdStrike received $100 million in investments led by Google Capital (since re-branded as CapitalG) in 2015.

CapitalG is owned by Alphabet, and Eric Schmidt, Alphabet’s chairman, was a supporter of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. More than just supporting Clinton, leaked emails from Wikileaks in November 2016 showed that in 2014 he wanted to have an active role in the campaign.

Seth Rich and 4 Others Killed within 6 weeks of eachother

Seth Rich and four other men, all tied to Hillary Clinton, mysteriously died within weeks of each other.

Seth Rich was a 27-year-old DNC staffer and Bernie Sanders supporter. He got wise to the shenanigans of the DNC as they worked to rob the nomination from Bernie so Hillary Clinton would get it.

A few weeks before the election he was walking home from his girlfriend’s apartment at 4 a.m. in a nice section of Washington D.C. when he was shot twice in the back and killed. The police defined it as a botched robbery, though evidence does not seem to support it. His wallet, expensive gold, cell phone and gold necklace were not taken.

There is supposedly a tape showing two men doing it, but it is being held by the D.C. police.

DNC emails were released by WikiLeaks before the election but for the most part, the MSM ignored them. Also, the emails contained information that showed unethical, if not criminal, actions by John Podesta and Hillary Clinton before the campaign, but there is no information to date that proves that the emails released were in any way false or made up.

In one of his e-mails sent out Podesta said: “the leaker must be made an example of.” The Wiki Leaks e-mails revealed that John Podesta and Robbie Mook concocted the Russia/Trump story before the election and released it within 24 hours of Hillary losing.

In a groundbreaking report, it was discovered that Donna Brazile, former DNC Chairwoman, and high-ranking DNC rep, tried to put an end into the Seth Rich investigations. Ms. Brazile allegedly called the private investigator handling the case, accused him of “snooping” and demanded to know why the investigation was still going on.

“The high-ranking DNC official that called the police after I inquired about Rich’s case was Donna Brazile,” veteran homicide detective Rod Wheeler told WND. “Why shouldn’t I reveal who it was?”

A spokesman for the Rich family has repeatedly criticized Detective Wheeler, who was hired by Rich’s family in March to find the DNC staffer’s murderer, for not ruling out the possibility that Rich may have leaked DNC emails to WikiLeaks. The Rich family recently sent Wheeler a “cease and desist” order to stop his investigation into the murder.

The acting spokesperson for the family of the late DNC staffer and suspected WikiLeaks source Seth Rich is a man named Brad Bauman who happens to be directly connected to Media Matters founder and George Soros-backed propagandist David Brock.

Brock’s organizations have been active in harassing and attacking journalists looking into the Seth Rich story. Affiliates of Brock have taken to Change.org to attack companies advertising with Fox 5 DC. The boycott campaign is organized by Karl Frisch, a former senior fellow at propaganda group Media Matters for America who spent his time at the organization helping develop “long-term strategy to target Fox News as a political actor.” Media Matters has also targeted Fox News anchor Sean Hannity for discussing the case.

In August Wikileaks offered a $20,000 reward for information on the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich. Julian Assange also suggested in August that Seth Rich was a Wikileaks informant.

Seth was one of five people who died in a six-week period who were all connected to Hillary in some way. The others were:

Victor Thorn, a 54-year-old Clinton researcher who wrote several books on Bill Clinton’s sexual assaults and drug running through Mena, Arkansas. He was found dead from a gunshot wound on a mountaintop near his home. He once said, “if anyone tells you I committed suicide, don’t believe them. I would never commit suicide.”

The very next day Shawn Lucas, a prominent lawyer who delivered a subpoena to Debbie Wasserman Shultz in a class action lawsuit on the primaries being rigged against Sanders was found dead on his bathroom floor faced down. Medical examiners tried to say it was a heart attack, but his girlfriend said he was in perfect health.

Joe Montano a Filipino American and aide to Sen.Tim Kaine died at age 47 of a heart attack a week before the Democrat convention and right before the Wikileaks e-mails came out. What did he know if anything?

United Nations official John Ash died when a barbell fell on his neck right before he was to testify against Hillary in a bribery scandal and was connected to a Chinese official who was being tried on smuggling in millions of dollars to here. He had been previously connected to Bill and Hillary in the Chinagate scandal when Bill was president. Ash’s death was first ruled a heart attack but later changed to a barbell accident.

The murder of Seth Rich occurred on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at approximately 4:20 a.m. in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
