Coronavirus death toll reaches 4,140 as recoveries exceed 109,000

Turkey's confirmed cases of the coronavirus increased by 1,368 in the past 24 hours, and 44 more people have died, taking the death toll to 4,140, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on May 17.

Turkey's total confirmed cases stood at 149,435, according to the graphic Koca shared at Twitter.

Some 1,825 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, Koca added.

The total number of recovered cases stood at 109,962.

Koca also said 35,369 tests were conducted over the past day, with the overall number of tests reaching 1,624,994.

Turkey is currently treating 914 patients in intensive care units, along with 468 intubated patients, Koca added.

Canadian Air Force aerobatic team’s jet crashes into house in British Columbia (VIDEOS)

A CT-114 Tutor training jet of the Canadian Air Force ‘Snowbirds’ aerobatic team has crashed into a building in the city of Kamloops. The fate of the pilots is currently unknown.

A Snowbirds training flight in Kamloops has suddenly gone wrong when one of the aircraft veered out of control and hit the ground soon after takeoff. Videos recorded by the eyewitnesses showed the moment of the chilling incident.

Two of the teams’ CT-114 Tutors took off from the Kamloops airport and were flying low. After gaining some altitude and making an aileron roll, one of them suddenly took a steep nosedive and two streams of smoke were seen ejecting out of it, followed by a loud bang.

Soon after that, the jet crashed into the ground.

Witnesses said that the pilot (or pilots) managed to eject before the crash, and footage seems to confirm that – but it doesn’t show the chutes’ canopies deploying on time.

NO PROOF to support ‘Russian assassin’ story, Czech govt concedes – yet minister claims suspicions are still ‘credible’

The Czech interior minister has admitted that Prague has no evidence against a Russian diplomat branded by media as a poison courier in an alleged assassination plot. It didn’t stop the minister pushing the theory further, though.

An acting head of the Russian foreign aid agency’s office in the Czech Republic, Andrey Konchakov, has recently found himself at the center of a scandal, after local media identified him as a suspected “spy” supposedly involved in a plot to assassinate several local officials.

Now, Czech Minster of the Interior Jan Hamacek is explaining that expelling the man could prove complicated precisely because mere suspicions do not give the state grounds for it. And it appears that mere suspicions are, in fact, all that Czech authorities have in this instance.

Air Force launches X-37B spy plane from Florida

ORLANDO, Fla., May 17 (UPI) – The Air Force launched the sixth mission of the uncrewed X-37B spy plane toward orbit at 9:14 a.m. EDT Sunday from Florida with several experiments on board.

Space Force propelled the Boeing-built space plane atop a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, which is adjacent to Kennedy Space Center.

The mission start had been delayed from Saturday morning because of high winds at the launch site and a heavy cloud cover.

The launch was held following protocols because of tight restrictions on access to the Air Force station because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
