Editor-in-chief of prominent independent news site detained in Egypt
Egyptian security services on Sunday detained the editor-in-chief of prominent independent news outlet Mada Masr, its lawyer said, the latest in a crackdown against journalists.
Lina Attallah was arrested outside Cairo’s Tora prison as she was interviewing rights activist Laila Soueif, mother of jailed activist Alaa Abdel Fattah who recently began a hunger strike.
“The prison security guards asked Attallah to show her identification card and later called her in for an investigation that lasted three hours,” lawyer Hassan al-Azhari told AFP.
He said she was later taken a police station and was expected to appear before the prosecution Monday morning, adding the reason for her arrest and charges remained unclear.

White House hits out at ‘Deep State’ after Trump fires inspector general Steve Linick
The president and his allies regularly rail against a ‘Deep State’ of shadowy forces in an otherwise apolitical civil service they see as committed to undermining Trump
The White House hit back Sunday at fierce criticism over the firing of the State Department’s top watchdog, suggesting he was a disloyal member of a “Deep State” conspiracy out to get President Donald Trump.
Trump told the House of Representatives late Friday he planned to dismiss Steve Linick, the fourth inspector general to be ousted by the president in the last six weeks.
Democratic lawmakers said Linick had apparently opened an investigation into Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, one of Trump’s most trusted aides.
The president and his allies regularly rail against a “Deep State” of shadowy forces in an otherwise apolitical civil service they see as committed to undermining Trump. There is no evidence that such a movement exists.
Asked by ABC about the latest dismissal, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro criticised “a lot of people” in the bureaucracy who “think they got elected president and not Donald J Trump”.

US occupation sends more logistical supplies and weapons to its illegal bases in Hasaka
Hasaka, SANA – The US occupation forces sent a new logistical supplies and weapons convoy to Syrian territory, coming from Iraq via al-Walid illegal crossing point.
Local sources told SANA’s reporter in Hasaka that the US occupation forces sent on Sunday evening a convoy of 50 vehicles including trucks, refrigerated trucks, and armored vehicles transporting logistical supplies and weapons.
The sources said the convoy went in the direction of Remailan area via al-Suwaidiya oil fields, and that it is presumably bound for the illegal bases set up by the US occupation in al-Shadadi city in Hasaka’s southern countryside.

Nigeria Impounds Plane of UK Flair Aviation Over Coronavirus-Related Flights Ban Violation
MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The Nigerian authorities have impounded an aircraft of UK's Flair Aviation airline company over a violation of commercial flight ban introduced in the light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nigerian Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika said on Sunday.
"Flair Aviation, a UK company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably we caught them conducting commercial flights. This is callous! The craft is impounded, the crew being interrogated. There shall be a maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!" the minister said on Twitter.
