Military aviation units often go on dets. They will fly off to somewhere other than their home station to do training for a period of time. It's not that unusual. Plus there are all kinds of exercises that go on, and they can bring in various air units to participate. Helps the ground side get realistic training, and helps the air side check off training boxes for the year.
