UMass Nursing Dean Fired For Saying "Everyone's Life Matters"

We have been discussing the growing fear of professors and students over the loss of free speech on campuses for years, but recently those concerns have been greatly magnified with the investigation or termination of professors for expressing opposing views about police abuse, Black Lives Matter movement or aspects of the protests following the killing of George Floyd. There is a sense of a new orthodoxy that does not allow for dissenting voices as campaigns are launched to fire faculty who are denounced as insensitive or even racist for such criticism. The most recent controversy involves the recently installed University of Massachusetts-Lowell Dean of Nursing Leslie Neal-Boylan. Dr. Neal-Boylan had only been in her position for a few months when she was fired.

The reason, according to many reports, is that she sent an email on June 2 to the Solomont School of Nursing on the recent anti-racism demonstrations across the country that include the words “everyone’s life matters.”

As a blog dedicated to free speech, it has been difficult to keep up with the rising number of cases of the curtailment of speech or academic freedom on our campuses. What is equally alarming is the relative silence of most faculty members as individual professors are publicly denounced by their universities, forced into retirement, or outright terminated for expressing dissenting views. This case however raises an equally serious concern over the loss of due process for academics who find themselves the focus of a campaign for removal — or simply summary dismissal.

Dr. Neal-Boylan was heralded last September as a “visionary leader” by the university in taking over the deanship. Her writings include strong advocacy for those with disabilities in the nursing field. Those writings show tremendous empathy and concern for inclusivity in the profession.

This controversy began when Dr. Neal-Boylan wrote the email which started with the following words:

“Dear SSON Community,” the email provided to Campus Reform begins.

“I am writing to express my concern and condemnation of the recent (and past) acts of violence against people of color. Recent events recall a tragic history of racism and bias that continue to thrive in this country. I despair for our future as a nation if we do not stand up against violence against anyone. BLACK LIVES MATTER, but also, EVERYONE’S LIFE MATTERS. No one should have to live in fear that they will be targeted for how they look or what they believe.”

The nation’s 42nd head of state also repeatedly sneaked out to visit Maxwell at her Upper East Side townhouse, as detailed in this exclusive excerpt.

That was less than two months ago.

Jeffrey Epstein died in prison in August 2019.

New York officials said it was a suicide.

This was despite multiple fractures in his neck that were not seen in simple suicide hangings in thousands of deaths.

On Wednesday the FBI arrested Ghislaine Maxwell.

Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested in New Hampshire.

Joe Biden to Ramp Up Barack Obama’s Plan to Abolish and Transform America’s Suburbs

Author Stanley Kurtz argued in his book Spreading The Wealth: How Obama Is Robbing The Suburbs To Pay For the Cites that Barack Obama’s grand socialist plan included redistributing wealth from American suburbs to the inner city.

Obama passed regulations in 2013 to force suburban neighborhoods with no record of housing discrimination to build more public housing targeted to ethnic and racial minorities.

According to Kurtz, the underlying thrust of the rule change was to force racial and ethnic diversity on the suburbs:

The new HUD rule is really about changing the way Americans live. It is part of a broader suite of initiatives designed to block suburban development, press Americans into hyper-dense cities, and force us out of our cars. Government-mandated ethnic and racial diversification plays a role in this scheme, yet the broader goal is forced “economic integration.”

The ultimate vision is to make all neighborhoods more or less alike, turning traditional cities into ultra-dense Manhattans, while making suburbs look more like cities do now. In this centrally-planned utopia, steadily increasing numbers will live cheek-by-jowl in “stack and pack” high-rises close to public transportation, while automobiles fall into relative disuse.

In June of 2015 the Obama administration moved forward with regulations designed to help diversify America’s wealthier neighborhoods. The regulations would force communities to build affordable housing in more affluent areas in order to receive federal grant money.

On Tuesday Stanley Kurtz came out with a new report at National Review on the Democrat Party’s plan to abolish the suburbs.

Says Kurtz:

Joe Biden and the Democrats want to abolish America’s suburbs. Biden and his party have embraced yet another dream of the radical Left: a federal takeover, transformation, and de facto urbanization of America’s suburbs. What’s more, Biden just might be able to pull off this “fundamental transformation.”

The suburbs are the swing constituency in our national elections. If suburban voters knew what the Democrats had in store for them, they’d run screaming in the other direction. Unfortunately, Republicans have been too clueless or timid to make an issue of the Democrats’ anti-suburban plans. It’s time to tell voters the truth.

I’ve been studying Joe Biden’s housing plans, and what I’ve seen is both surprising and frightening. I expected that a President Biden would enforce the Obama administration’s radical AFFH (Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing) regulation to the hilt. That is exactly what Biden promises to do. By itself, that would be more than enough to end America’s suburbs as we’ve known them, as I’ve explained repeatedly here at NRO.

Adam Schiff Knew About 'Russian Bounty' Intel Months Ago, Did Nothing

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) was briefed on unverified intelligence that Russia was offering the Taliban to kill US soldiers in Afghanistan - yet did nothing with that information, according to The Federalist.

Schiff, who chairs the House Intelligence Committee, was a key player in the attempt to remove Trump from office - first claiming he had evidence of collusion with Russia, before pivoting to the Ukraine saga where he spearheaded the House's impeachment of Trump over his request that Ukraine's new president investigate Joe and Hunter Biden over allegations of corruption.

And yet, somehow Schiff failed to weaponize the 'Taliban bounty' story for months after his staff was briefed on the rumor during a February congressional delegation (CODEL) trip to Afghanistan.

The Federalist points out Schiff's hypocrisy:

Schiff’s recent complaints that Trump took no action against Russia in response to rumors of Russian bounties are curious given that Schiff himself took no action after his top staff were briefed by intelligence officials.

As chairman of the intelligence committee, Schiff had the authority to immediately brief the full committee and convene hearings on the matter. Schiff, however, did nothing. He did not brief his committee on the matter, nor did he brief the gang of 8, which consists of top congressional leadership in both chambers.

Schiff is demanding that the Trump administration brief all of Congress about the unverified allegations, yet he himself did not ask for a briefing of the Intelligence Committee following the February briefing of his own staff.

Schiff spokesman Patrick Boland failed to respond to a Federalist request for comment on the congressman's inaction for months, or why travel records from the Afghanistan trip had yet to be disclosed in the Congressional record "as required by law."

Meanwhile, Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said in a Saturday statement that he had "confirmed that neither the President nor the Vice President were ever briefed on any intelligence alleged by the New York Times in its reporting."

And in a Saturday night Tweet in response to establishment tool Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Trump wrote "Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or VP."

Rabobank: Every Member Of Congress Is Now Open To Arrest If They Visit Hong Kong

Yesterday the Global Daily noted that markets were under a Sword of Damocles in terms of the rapid deterioration in US-China relations. Markets were, of course, happier to focus on what might be a virus vaccine, despite the fact that the actual impact of the virus does not bother them, and on more upbeat US data, which runs against the trend in the virus that they aren’t bothered about.

Around 12 hours after publication came news that the White House plans to proceed with “harsh” Magnitsky sanctions against members of the Chinese Communist Party it sees as responsible for human rights abuses in Xinjiang. That decision may have been prompted by the US seizure yesterday of a cargo of 11.8 tonnes of human hair for wig-making which it alleges may have been sourced from “re-education” centres in Xinjiang holding ethnic Muslim populations: the US does not seem to believe Uighurs are all being taught hair-dressing. Beijing has already made clear it will be furious if this occurs: could it perhaps go so far as to target US firms in response?

Yet within hours that threat was eclipsed by the unanimous passage by the US House of Representatives of the bill already passed in the Senate to impose mandatory Magnitsky sanctions on Chinese banks who do business with officials implementing Hong Kong’s new national security law. Constitutionally, the Senate now needs to pass the bill again, which it appears will take no time at all given the sentiment in DC, and it then goes to President Trump with a veto-proof majority behind it - meaning it WILL become law. Perhaps even as soon as this this week, but certainly in the not-too-distant future. Underlining the present political dynamic, each member of Congress has, in all likelihood, broken said Hong Kong law by their actions and could technically be open to arrest if they were to visit.

The language of the bill, which is now crucial, states: “If the Secretary of State determines that a foreign person is materially contributing to, has materially contributed to, or attempts to materially contribute to the failure of the Government of China to meet its obligations under the Joint Declaration of the Basic Law” then the US is to impose sanctions on it. That is broad enough to cover anyone in the Chinese or Hong Kong government, security services, and/or civil servants. The bill also states any foreign financial institution that conduct “significant transactions” with anyone in the Hong Kong government or the National People’s Congress (NPC), or in the Hong Kong China Liaison Office, will likewise be cut off from the US financial system.

How are these individuals banked now? By Chinese banks. Will the NPC or Hong Kong government really be paid in cash from now on? Hardly. In which case, the Chinese banks that bank them would, under this bill, be cut off from USD in exactly the same way Iran has been. It is there in black and white. There might well be a lead time of a year to allow global positions to be unwound – but that would be the final destination.

British Court Refuses To Release Venezuelan Gold To Maduro

18 months ago, the 'virtue-signaling' Bank of England stuck a knife between the ribs of Venezuela's embattled socialist leader, Nicolas Maduro, a former bus driver and anointed successor of Huge Chavez who managed to cling to power last year despite a Western-backed coup attempt led by opposition leader Juan Guaido, whose government was officially recognized by dozens of foreign governments.

But when the Venezuelan military refused to break with Maduro, choosing instead to back him over Guaido, Guaido gradually faded into irrelevance. He's still there, and still claiming to be the legitimate ruler of Venezuela, but instead of looking like a credible alternative to Maduro, he's sounding more like a deranged street preacher proclaiming that he is the one true messiah.

Iran confirms mystery 'incident' damaged its major nuclear site in Natanz

Some damage was inflicted on a building currently under construction at a nuclear facility in Natanz, Iran's Atomic Energy Organization has reported. However, it said there's "no need to worry" about possible radiation release.

The unspecified incident involved one of the "sheds under construction" at Natanz nuclear enrichment facility, Behrouz Kamalvandi, a spokesperson for the organization, told state news agency IRNA this Thursday.

There were no casualties among personnel and the incident did not disrupt "the current activities of this complex."

The Natanz site is thought to be Iran's prime uranium enrichment facility and a key part of the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. Calling the enrichment site "inactive," Kamalvandi said "there is no need to worry" about "the possibility of creating [radioactive] pollution."

The official stopped short of sharing more details, but said expert teams from the Atomic Energy Organization had been deployed to investigate the incident.

Located some 250km south of Tehran, the Natanz facility was the target of a sophisticated cyberattack almost a decade ago. The Stuxnet worm was reportedly used to sabotage enrichment activity by incapacitating gas centrifuges, and the network attack affected the whole nuclear program, then-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad admitted at the time.

The site was also mentioned in the 2015 nuclear deal, which has been in jeopardy since the US withdrew from it in 2018. In response to the withdrawal, Tehran has rolled back its commitments under the pact and restarted enriching uranium beyond limits set out in the agreement.

Dozens evacuated after massive explosions at local supermarket in western France

Residents in Plancoet, in northwestern France, were rudely awoken in the middle of the night by a series of ferocious explosions at a nearby supermarket, which blew out windows and forced evacuations.

Roughly 40 firefighters from the town and nearby villages were deployed to tackle the blaze near the Hyper U store in Plancoet, which broke out at around 2:38am local time. Eyewitness footage from the scene shows the incredible power of the explosions. It comes amid fears that an arsonist might be wreaking havoc in the area.

Exploded gas bottles were found over 50 meters away from the fire, and there is also a liquefied petroleum gas tank nearby which firefighters were extremely concerned might explode during the initial phase of their operation.

Hampering their efforts further was the risk of additional gas cylinders exploding and becoming improvised missiles, forcing firefighters to keep their distance and rely on water cannon to tame the blaze.

Some 55 people were evacuated, while a further five were ordered to shelter in place in their homes, but thankfully there were no injuries or fatalities reported.

Thursday morning’s fire is the largest of 15 blazes to occur in the town in the last three months. Mayor Patrick Barrault declined to comment on the possibility that a serial arsonist was to blame for the recent spate of fires, citing an ongoing investigation.

'Nancy Pelosi, secret Nazi?' Trump team fires back after latest #Resistance attack compares campaign T-shirt to 3rd Reich emblem

US President Donald Trump’s re-election team has ridiculed the most recent attempt to tie the commander in chief to Nazism after critics compared a campaign T-shirt graphic to a logo commonly used in the Third Reich.

Responding to the allegation that the T-shirt ripped off the emblem of the Nazi Party – spread online by the president’s detractors on Wednesday – Trump’s campaign team dug up photos showing prominent Democratic figures donning similar symbols, asking whether they also had something to hide.

“This is moronic. In Democrats’ America, Mount Rushmore glorifies white supremacy and the bald eagle with an American flag is a Nazi symbol,” the campaign said in a statement addressing the controversy, adding that Democrats “have lost their minds.”

A number of netizens also shot back that eagle symbolism is found in countless American seals and logos dating back centuries. The bird was first chosen for the US national emblem in 1782 following the War for Independence – slightly predating the Nazis’ rise to power over 150 years later. Even self-avowed opponents of the president noted that the eagle theme is not “uncommon,” pointing to the seal of the US Marine Corps and other military symbols.

Critics, including a Democratic congressional candidate for Virginia’s 1st District, were not convinced, however, arguing that the eagle’s head always faces rightward in American iconography, while the Nazis – as well as the Trump campaign – had the bird facing to the left (so long as one doesn’t count older versions of the US presidential seal or the Nazi ‘Reichsadler,’ that is).

The incident is not the first time the Trump Team has been accused of reviving Nazi imagery. Most recently, the campaign came under fire after running a social media ad featuring a red triangle, which it said was the logo of Antifa – a loosely organized faction of left-wing street protesters. Opponents, however, insisted the symbol was taken directly from the Third Reich, as a nearly identical shape was used to mark political prisoners in concentration camps.

Trump Might Have Buyer’s Regret Over Jared Kushner’s Policy Advice

According to an Axios report Wednesday based on three anonymous White House sources, President Donald Trump has expressed regret over listening to Jared Kushner’s policy advice on criminal justice reform.

Trump wants “No more of Jared’s woke s***,” one anonymous source told Axios. Another source reportedly claims Trump now believes that listening to son-in-law Kushner has hurt the president’s support with his conservative base.

If accurate, the statements might suggest Trump’s unwillingness to proceed with further police reform after he issued an executive order in June that addressed police training standards.

Trump has previously voiced his desire to oppose efforts to abolish or defund local police forces and has said Americans who vote for him in November will be supporting more funding for law enforcement.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson has been increasingly critical of Trump’s apparent reluctance to face down the rioters destroying property and toppling statues, recently citing Kushner’s support for the “reckless” prison reform bill as one example of the president taking the wrong advice.

“He often derides Kushner as a liberal,” Carlson said. “And that’s correct, Kushner is. But Kushner has convinced the president that throwing open the prisons is the key to winning African American votes in the fall and that those votes are essential to his reelection.”

The Axios article claims that Trump was was only following Kushner’s lead when he portrayed criminal justice reform as a necessary response to social ills. But he is still confident of a presidential win, reports Axios.
