Omar Paid $878,000 To New Husband’s Consulting Firm, Data Show

Rep. Ilhan Omar paid new husband Tim Mynett’s political consulting firm more than $878,000 since 2018 — including $189,000 just weeks after the couple announced they had gotten married, the New York Post reported on Tuesday.

In just the first quarter of this year, Mynett’s E Street Group has pulled in $292,000 from Omar’s campaign, fees the campaign says were paid for digital advertising, fundraising consulting and research services.

“The payments between the Minneapolis Democratic congresswoman and Tim Mynett prompted at least one ethics complaint in 2019 after The Post first revealed allegations — made by Mynett’s then-wife in her divorce filing — that Omar was having an affair with the member of her political consulting team, who was at the time married to another woman. Omar was married to her second husband at the time,” The Post wrote.

In total, Mynett has received a whopping $878,930.65 from Omar’s campaign since he began working for her in 2018, raising eyebrows among watchdogs and political law experts who say the practice is rife with cronyism.

The majority of those payments were made after the Somali-born lawmaker’s victory in the solidly Democratic district in the November 2018 midterm elections.

Omar is by far the E Street Group’s biggest client, according to Open Secrets data, with nearly one in every three of Omar’s campaign dollars going to her alleged lover’s firm as of last August, according to the Washington Examiner.

Impeachment Witness Vindman Quits Over 'White House Bullying'

A key witness in the Democrats' impeachment of President Trump has quit after the White House bullied him, according to his lawyer.

Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman - who was accused of being coached by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff during testimony when he told House committees that he "did not think it was proper" for President Trump to ask Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky to investigate former VP Joe Biden during a July 25 phone call - is retiring from the US Army after over 21 years, according to CNN.

Vindman has endured a "campaign of bullying, intimidation, and retaliation" spearheaded by the President following his testimony in the impeachment inquiry last year, according to his attorney, Amb. David Pressman. -CNN

"The President of the United States attempted to force LTC Vindman to choose: Between adhering to the law or pleasing a President. Between honoring his oath or protecting his career. Between protecting his promotion or the promotion of his fellow soldiers," Pressman told CNN.

"These are choices that no one in the United States should confront, especially one who has dedicated his life to serving it," he said, adding that Vindman "did what the law compelled him to do; and for that he was bullied by the President and his proxies."

Last November, Vindman admitted to violating the chain of command when he reported his concerns over a July 25 phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky, in which Trump requested an investigation into Joe Biden and his son Hunter over corruption.

Vindman, a NSC Ukraine expert (who was asked three times to become their Defense Minister), claimed he had no idea that Burisma, a natural gas company which paid Hunter to sit on its board, routed over $3 million to accounts tied to Hunter Biden.

In 2015 the Little Sisters of the Poor were concerned that after more than a century of service in the country the Obama Administration would force them out of the United States. The order was previously banned in China and Myanmar. The Obama Administration was forcing them out of the United States by demanding they pay or birth control that goes against their religious beliefs.

The religious order claimed the so-called contraception mandate in ObamaCare will make it impossible for them to continue their work in the United States.

Report finds UK enabled ‘unlawful’ Saudi-led naval blockade of Yemen, as London resumes arms sales to Riyadh

The United Kingdom has been providing naval training to members of the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen, skills which may have been used to impose a widely condemned embargo on the war-torn country, according to a new report.

The Royal Navy is instructing naval personnel from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Declassified UK has uncovered, even as the Gulf states continue to impose a devastating sea blockade on Yemen, resulting in millions of civilians living on the brink of starvation.

In September 2015, a UAE naval officer attended a four-week training course in southern England – just months after the Saudi-led coalition began its embargo on Yemen and bombed the port of Hodeidah, destroying warehouses, cranes and other infrastructure used to unload and store badly needed humanitarian supplies. The British program included instruction in ‘counter-smuggling’ and ‘board and search’.

Six months later, according to Declassified UK, Royal Navy officers spent a week in Saudi Arabia drilling 15 sailors on how to “board and search” vessels in “international waters or territorial seas.” The Saudi personnel were taught “high-risk search techniques” as well as detention procedures. Between September 2016 and March 2017, the UK also provided Saudi and UAE forces with instruction on protecting an Exclusive Economic Zone – the area off the coast of a country containing its exclusive fishing and other resource-gathering rights. The course was followed by training exercises with the Saudi Navy.

Local St. Louis media KSDK reported on July 2nd:

Board Bill 92 would begin the process of closing “The Workhouse,” also known as St. Louis City Medium Security Institution, by the end of the year. If passed, the city would have to find other housing for detainees, either at the justice center or at surrounding facilities.

The bill would also develop criteria for the hiring of social workers for detainees diagnosed with mental health issues and use funds from the closure to form a Division of Recidivism Reduction.

“Without the work of many in the community for several years, we wouldn’t be able to move this forward,” St. Louis Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed said in a press release. “This bill will be a catalyst to a defined and organized process to effectively and safely close the workhouse while allowing for the funding of needed resources that are lacking in our community.”

The bill also requires the city to interview staff currently working at the jail to determine whether those employees can fill other vacant jobs in the city.

A second read of the bill is scheduled for July 8 at 1 p.m. It would then move to the entire board for approval.

Protesters and activists have been calling for the closure of “The Workhouse” for years, but public pressure has increased in recent weeks.

The city is touting a recent Grand Jury report that summarized a recent tour of the Workhouse this way: “After years of bad press due to poor conditions, the current reality was far different.”

Harvard, MIT Sue ICE Over Student Visa Guidelines

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Wednsday morning, seeking a temporary restraining order to prevent the agencies from enforcing federal guidelines which would prevent foreign students from remaining in the United States if their college switches to online-only classes.

"It appears that it was designed purposefully to place pressure on colleges and universities to open their on-campus classrooms for in-person instruction this fall, without regard to concerns for the health and safety of students, instructors, and others," said Harvard President Lawrence Bacow in a Wednesday statement.

Of note, President Trump has repeatedly mentioned the need for schools to open this fall, most recently threatening to cut off funding if they do not.

The guidelines were released just hours after Harvard announced it would house no more than 40 percent of undergraduates and would hold all College classes online in the fall. -Harvard Crimson

"The order came down without notice—its cruelty surpassed only by its recklessness," Bacow wrote in an email to affiliates. "We believe that the ICE order is bad public policy, and we believe that it is illegal."

The move by immigration authorities sparked legal action almost immediately — Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced Tuesday that her office “will sue” over the guidelines, which she called “cruel” and “illegal.”

Still, Bacow and Harvard chose not to wait for Healey’s suit. Their case argues that the guidelines violated the Administrative Procedure Act by failing to consider “important aspects of the problem” in advance of its release, failing to provide a reasonable basis for the policy, and failing to adequately notify the public. -Harvard Crimson

Lopez posted the hateful letter filled with racist, homophobic and misogynist slurs.

A man who claimed he received a hate-filled, racist letter from an anonymous person allegedly wrote the letter himself, Hermiston Police say.

Chief Jason Edmiston tells KEPR-TV News that the criminal investigation for second-degree intimidation due to the racist, hate-filled letter received by Jonathan Lopez on June 23 has been closed. The matter will be referred this week to the Umatilla County District Attorney’s Office for initiating a false report – a Class A misdemeanor in Oregon.

Edmiston says the investigation has shown that Jonathan Lopez wrote the letter himself and made false statements to the police and on social media. The end result is a verbal and written admission by Lopez that the letter was fabricated.

Additionally, the Hermiston Police are sending the Office of the District Attorney verifiable information of potential election fraud as it pertains to the Stolen Valor Act of 2013 and other false credentials presented by Mr. Lopez during his run for county commissioner. This in conjunction with a lengthy criminal history record may result in the filing of additional charges.

British court rules against Christopher Steele, orders damages paid to businessmen named in dossier

Court rules Steele's firm violated Britain's data privacy law by failing to aggressively check allegations in his dossier

A British judge ruled Wednesday that Christopher Steele violated a data privacy law by failing to check the accuracy of information in his infamous dossier, ordering the former spy’s firm to pay damages to two businessmen he wrongly accused of making illicit payments in Russia.

Justice Mark Warby of the High Court of England and Wales ordered Steele’s firm, Orbis Business Intelligence, to pay a modest 18,000 English pounds – about $22,596 in American currency – each to Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman as compensation for a violation of Britain’s Data Protection Act 1998 .

Warby ruled that while Steele had a national security interest to share his intelligence with U.S. and British authorities, several of the allegations in Memo 112 of the Steele dossier were “inaccurate or misleading as a matter of fact.”

The judge ruled Steele violated the law by failing to aggressively check the accuracy of one claim accusing Aven and Fridman of making illicit payments to Russia President Vladimir Putin before distributing it to various U.S. and British figures, including the FBI.

“That is an allegation of serial criminal wrongdoing, over a prolonged period. Even in the limited and specific context of reporting intelligence for the purposes I have mentioned, and despite all the other factors I have listed, the steps taken to verify that proposition fell short of what would have been reasonable,” Warby ruled.

“The allegation clearly called for closer attention, a more enquiring approach, and more energetic checking,” the judge added.

The ruling involves a long-discredited claim in Steele’s dossier – repeatedly used by U.S. news media – that Russia’s Alfa Bank, connected to Aven and Fridman, was transmitting secret messages between Moscow and the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.

The FBI concluded the computer pings were not nefarious messages but rather routine behavior most likely connected to email spam. Special Counsel Robert Mueller told Congress last year he did not believe the allegations.

Fridman hailed the ruling in a statement.

“We are delighted with the outcome of this case and that Mr Justice Warby has determined what we have always known to be the case – that the contents of Memorandum 112 are inaccurate and misleading," he said. "Ever since these odious allegations were first made public in January 2017, my partners and I have been resolute and unwavering in our determination to prove that they are untrue, and through this case, we have finally succeeded in doing so.”

Though a matter of British law, the ruling is likely to have impact as well in the United States, where the Justice Department continues to investigate the actions of the FBI in the Russia collusion probe, including its interactions with Steele and agents' honesty with the FISA court.

TikTok has failed to protect children’s privacy and can’t even keep them safe from froth-mouthed Nazis, US NGOs and media have declared, just in time to give Washington a reason to ban the popular Chinese-made app.

The US Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department are reportedly probing accusations that TikTok failed to protect children’s privacy in keeping with a 2019 agreement, according to representatives of tech policy groups whose anti-Tiktok grievances neatly coincide with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s hints earlier this week that Washington is seeking to ban the wildly popular micro-vlogging platform.

TikTok has contested the allegations, insisting it “accommodate[s] users under 13 in a limited app experience that introduces additional safety and privacy protections designed specifically for a younger audience.”

But that special treatment didn’t spare them the blame when a “sickening anti-Semitic song” that (among other things) flippantly referenced “shower time” at the notorious concentration camp Auschwitz went viral on the platform. Accusing the site’s algorithm of “ensuring that video got more than six million views,” the BBC acknowledged that the videos were removed in about eight hours – but not before attracting a large audience.

“TikTok has a particular obligation to tackle this content fast because it specializes in delivering viral videos to children and young adults when they are most vulnerable,” Campaign Against Antisemitism director of investigations and enforcement Stephen Silverman proclaimed, calling the platform “one of the fastest vectors for transmission of memes mocking the Holocaust.”

However, even the BBC admitted that a nearly-identical version of the viral clip was uploaded to YouTube five years ago, racking up 67,000 views before being yanked – and then only because the BBC had brought it to the platform’s attention.

Rap superstar Kanye West said he has lost confidence in President Donald Trump after reports that the president was moved to an underground bunker during the Black Lives Matter protests outside the White House in May.

“It looks like one big mess to me,” Kanye West said of the Trump presidency. “I don’t like that I caught wind that he hid in the bunker.” West attended a similar protest in Chicago but quickly departed the event after being accused of hijacking it.

According to reports at the time, Secret Service agents moved the president to the underground bunker in the White House after hundreds of riled up protesters surrounded the White House. West made the comments in an interview with Forbes, where he also confirmed his intention to run in this year’s presidential election and explained his previous wearing of a Make America Great Again hat.

“I’m speaking with experts, I’m going to speak with Jared Kushner, the White House, with Biden,” the Grammy-winner told the magazine. “We’ve been talking about this for years.”

“One of the main reasons I wore the red hat as a protest to the segregation of votes in the Black community,” West added. “Also, other than the fact that I like Trump hotels and the saxophones in the lobby.”

Despite seeking his advice, the 43-year-old also mocked Joe Biden, insisting that he is “not special” like past presidents and will not get in the way of his electoral success.

Portland Demonstrators Engage in ‘Night of Rage’ to Protest Death of BLM Protester

Demonstrators in Portland engaged in what was dubbed a “night of rage” to avenge the death of a Black Lives Matter protester who died over the weekend after a man drove his vehicle on a closed freeway, where a protest was taking place.

“The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office is aware of an event tonight calling for a ‘night of rage’ at the Justice Center in Downtown Portland,” Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post Tuesday evening.

“We strongly support the right to demonstrate and for people to use their individual and collective voices to express grief, outrage, and call for action. But criminal activity under the guise of peaceful protests will not be tolerated,” the sheriff’s office warned.

According to KOIN, as many as 200 people gathered in front of the federal courthouse for a sit-in.

“Organizers said they wanted to show police they were peacefully protesting and focusing on the message, not violence,” the outlet reported.

The event coincided with the “night of rage” protest over the death of Summer Taylor, who died Saturday after being struck by a driver who drove his vehicle onto a closed freeway, where a protest was taking place. A judge set bail for the accused driver, Dawit Kelete, at $1.2 million.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, in its warning ahead of the tense night, drew attention to the demonstrators’ “nightly” assault on both the Justice Center and police officers.”

“Individuals have thrown and launched projectiles at police, including improvised explosives, bricks, rocks, commercial fireworks, and metal ball bearings,” the sheriff’s office said. “This is a life safety issue for our first responders and protesters themselves.”

“Multiple deputies and officers have been injured. We have witnessed an increase in fires being set at the Justice Center and at nearby businesses. People have blocked or barricaded entrances, putting hundreds of lives in grave danger,” it continued:

Top US General Says Intelligence On Alleged Russian Bounties Is ‘Very Worrisome,’ Inconclusive

The top general of U.S. Central Command said Tuesday he is concerned about intelligence that Russia has paid Taliban fighters to target American troops in Afghanistan, but that he has not seen evidence the alleged bounty program has resulted in the death of U.S. soldiers.

“I found it very worrisome, I just didn’t find that there was a causative link there,” Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr., one of the highest-ranking U.S. generals overseeing operations in the Middle East, told a group of reporters, according to ABC News.

“You see a lot of indicators, many of them are troubling many of them you act on. But, but in this case there just there wasn’t enough there.”

“I sent the intelligence guys back to continue to dig on it, and I believe they’re continuing to dig right now, but I just didn’t see enough there to tell me that the circuit was closed in that regard,” he added, according to ABC.

McKenzie’s remarks are the most detailed to date about how U.S. military leaders assessed intelligence about the alleged bounty program. His comments also suggest that the intelligence is not as definitive as initial press reports made it seem.

The New York Times reported on June 26 that U.S. officials had confirmed Russia’s military intelligence unit, the GRU, was paying Taliban fighters to target U.S. troops. The newspaper added another potential bombshell, claiming that President Trump was briefed on the intelligence earlier this year but had not authorized any response.

EU Commission Declares Asylum Rejections at Borders Illegal

The European Commission has declared that European Union member states cannot reject asylum applications at their borders or close their borders to asylum seekers.

Ylva Johansson, Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, stated that countries should not push back migrants from the border and that all asylum applications should be allowed to take place within the territory of the European Union.

“Rejections are illegal. Not everyone has the right to asylum, but everyone has the right to be treated in line with our values. When people apply for asylum in the EU, they appeal to European values. And we must honour that appeal,” Ms Johansson said, according to Il Giornale.

Johansson added that the EU would be conducting investigations into member states which rejected migrants at their borders. The commissioner said: “We cannot protect EU borders by violating people’s rights. In my opinion, it is time to consider the possibility of setting up a new mechanism to monitor border rejections. We have to make sure that Member States respect EU law.”

Even during the coronavirus crisis, the European Union has made it clear it supports borders being open for asylum seekers.

In March, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen initially tried to keep all of the EU internal borders open, stating: “In this moment of crisis it is of utmost importance to keep our internal market going.”

Many countries closed their borders due to the pandemic, but have recently seen a surge in new asylum seeker arrivals upon relaxing the lockdowns, particularly in Italy.

Arrivals have coincided with migrant transport NGOs also resuming their activities in the Mediterranean in recent weeks.

Last week, Italian NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans brought 43 migrants from North Africa to Italy, eight of them testing positive for the Wuhan coronavirus. A month before, the German NGO Sea-Watch brought 209 migrants, with 28 of them testing positive for the virus.

Migration Watch: 7,500 Illegal Boat Migrants Will Reach the UK by Christmas

Migration Watch UK has issued a report that predicts that the number of illegal boat migrants entering the United Kingdom will be more than 7,500 by the end of the year, as Home Secretary Priti Patel backs away from her pledge to make illegal migration an “infrequent phenomenon”.

Illegal boat migration across the English Channel has increased in the first six months of 2020, with at least 2,400 migrants successfully reaching British shores since the beginning of the year, four times the 600 migrants that came during the same period in 2019.

The London-based think tank Migration Watch UK said in a report that if this trend continues, by Christmas nearly 7,600 illegal migrants will have entered the country, compared to the 1,900 that came in 2019. The migration pressure group also noted that the figures only reflect those boat migrants that were actually detected by migration officials, meaning that in reality, the numbers are likely higher.

On Monday, Home Secretary Priti Patel told the Press Association that there were “far too many crossings”.

When asked if there was a new timetable to reduce illegal crossings to an “infrequent phenomenon,” Patel said: “No. The fact of the matter is, I’ve said from day one this is a complicated issue. Illegal migration has been a feature of every single Government.”

“The fact of the matter is, and I have repeatedly said this, when it comes to small boats in particular that is a route that has become far too viable for criminals,” Patel added.

In comments seen by Breitbart London, Migration Watch UK chairman Alp Mehmet said in response: “The Home Secretary said she wanted illegal Channel crossings to become an ‘infrequent phenomenon’. The opposite has happened with their frequency picking up pace.”

“This cannot continue; it undermines confidence in the whole system and emboldens the traffickers. Urgent and effective action is essential if the public’s faith in our ability to control our border is not to be lost for good,” Mehmet added.

To tackle the growing crisis of illegal boat migration, Migration Watch laid out a series of policy proposals for Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s government to adopt.

First, the think tank said that the government should come to an agreement with the French government, that would see illegal migrants attempting to cross the Channel to be immediately returned to France.

Next, Migration Watch called on the government to provide a “major boost” in funding for UK immigration enforcement, which according to the National Audit Office has been cut by some £47 million since 2015. The pressure group also called on the government to provide Immigration Compliance and Enforcement Teams with “more support and determined leadership”.

Mexico’s ‘Socialist’ President Invites Nation’s Richest to Trump Dinner

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced he would bring that country’s richest businessmen for a dinner with President Donald Trump. The delegation shows a stark contrast to Lopez Obrador’s (AMLO) own rhetoric and branding as far-left socialist.

AMLO’s trip comes soon after the start of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a new accord that replaces the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The agreement was one of the main promises of Trump’s presidential campaign, Breitbart News reported.

AMLO and 12 of Mexico’s top businessmen including billionaires Carlos Slim, Carlos Hank Ron, and Ricardo Salinas Pliego will visit the White House for dinner, Mexico’s Foreign Relations Secretariat announced. Diplomats described the dinner as a forum to explore USMCA’s possibilities for “investment, employment and well being of both nations.”

The visit shows a sharp contrast to AMLO’s usual rhetoric and self-labeling as a socialist.

Candidate Lopez Obrador often appeared confrontational against the U.S. president, primarily in the topic of immigration and claimed in 2017 he would fight against Trump’s “egoism, classism, phobias, and discrimination.” Once elected, AMLO deployed his newly formed National Guard to Mexico’s southern border to slow the flow of Central American migrants.

AMLO has often called out Mexico’s upper-class–labeling them “fifis”–declaring they were working to derail his presidency. Earlier this year, AMLO claimed a conspiracy of businessmen, domestic media personalities, and international journalists were part of an “opposition bloc” working to get conservative candidates elected and eventually remove him from power.
