QAnon: The far-right conspiracy theory taking hold of

Republicans

The language of Trump and QAnon is unmistakably similar.

Will America succumb to this skewed thinking?

by Lily Russell-Jones 08/07/2020

"Blink and you could have missed it. After winning a Primary to become the Republican candidate for Oregon in May, Jo Rae Perkins thanked QAnons in a hastily-deleted video.

The would-be-Senator addressed her supporters, saying: ‘I stand with President Trump. I stand with Q and the team. Thank you Anons, and thank you patriots. And together, we can save our republic’.

This overt nod to QAnon, a theory which holds that President Trump is battling a corrupt deep-state comprised of members of the democrat party involved in Satan-worship, cannibalism and paedophilia, is indicative of the conspiracy’s growing influence in US politics.

QAnon derives its name from the figure of Q, an anonymous source claiming to be a high-up military official, who posts coded messages, known as Q drops, on image boards including 4Chan and 8Kun. Thousands of online followers try to decode Q’s sporadic messages which invariably reference Donald Trump’s silent war against a shady global elite.

As an outsider, it is easy to dismiss QAnon as nonsensical lunacy. Yet, the theory is gradually creeping out of shady internet forums and into the political mainstream.

Perkins is not the only high-profile Republican to announce their support for QAnon to the electorate. Marjorie Taylor Greene, an outspoken proponent of the Q theory, is poised to be elected to Congress after coming first in a Republican primary in Georgia earlier this month.

Meanwhile, Trump has selected Rep. John Ratcliffe, a republican congressman who has been criticised for following QAnon supporters on social media, for the prestigious role of Director of National Intelligence.

The promotion of QAnon believers to the higher echelons of the Republican Party signals the popularity of the theory at the grassroots level, and its political benefits to the Trump Administration. QAnons show cult-like reverence for Trump who is seen as a messianic figure, sent to protect the public from his impossibly powerful enemies. The Q-Universe has its own upside down logic: the worse the domestic situation becomes the more adamant Anons are that Trump is being sabotaged by the deep state.

The Trump administration’s mismanagement of the coronavirus pandemic is a case in point. While the US has seen over 130,000 deaths, the highest count worldwide, many Anons believe that the pandemic is a hoax, engineered by Trump to distract the world while he arrests Tom Hanks, Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton for trafficking ‘mole-children’ kept in subterranean prisons.

Trump is no stranger to encouraging the spread of misinformation to serve his political ends. During the 2016 election cycle he relied upon conspiracy theorists to win over public opinion, even appearing on the the program Infowars run by the prominent conspiracist, Alex Jones. The rise of QAnon is setting the stage for Trump to use the same tactics during the current election cycle.

While Trump may not have acknowledged Q explicitly, the vague, bellicose, language of his tweets offers covert support to conspiracists. On May 17 he tweeted: ‘the world is at war with a hidden enemy. WE WILL WIN!!!’ At first glance, the tweet appears to refer to the coronavirus crisis. Yet, QAnons interpreted the message as a call to arms, linking it to a similar message posted by Q in April.

The violent language used by Q supporters is unsettling, not least because the FBI identified QAnon as a domestic terror threat in an internal memo last years.

A foray into 8Kun (not for the faint-hearted) reveals that Q related image boards are full of martial language, encouraging patriots to participate in information warfare online. For the most part, users are encouraged to engage in discursive battles, such as ‘targeted meme operations’, which involve creating shareable content for social media platforms or coordinating responses to individuals on Twitter.

However, it’s also a breeding ground for extremist views and incitements to violence. Disturbingly, in posts linked to the QAnon image board neo-Nazis are calling for a crackdown against Black Lives Matter protesters by the police and the national guard, even encouraging one another to take matters into their own hands.

While the majority of Q-followers do not endorse violent action, the threat posed to domestic security by online extremism should not be ignored."

Fact check: Melania Trump's Mount Rushmore dress did not

feature abuse victims' drawings

McKenzie Sadeghi & Chelsey Cox

USA TODAY

published 6:28 p.m. ET Jul. 8, 2020

"The claim: Dress worn by Melania Trump at Mount Rushmore speech featured drawings by victims of child sex abuse.

While the first lady's wardrobe choices are often met with criticism, social media users praised Melania Trump following one of her most recent appearances, claiming her dress was designed by victims of child sex abuse.

The first lady joined President Donald Trump in Keystone, South Dakota, on the eve of Independence Day at Mount Rushmore, where the president delivered remarks and condemned protesters for attacking monuments.

Shortly after the rally, a post about her white-and-black dress made its way to social media platforms.

It was mocked by the media, according to a July 5 Facebook post by user, Mike Parr.

"They said it looked like childish scribbles. Little did they know, they were the drawings of several young victims of sex trafficking who tried to explain their pain through pictures," Parr wrote. "They mocked her raising awareness for the victims of sex trafficking. This deserves 100,000 shares!"

Parr did not respond to a request for comment from USA TODAY.

"Social media made fun of Melania's dress she wore last night. They said it looked like President Trump scribbled on it with a marker," an Instagram post shared by @networkradio.us on June 5 reads. "It is a dress designed by Alexander McQueen using sketches drawn by victims of child sexual abuse to describe their feelings. Our First Lady is incredible."

The post also appeared on Facebook, where user Candy Cannon shared a photo of the in the dress and wrote, "First Lady Melania may be silent, yet her dress is screaming out loud and clear!!! #SaveTheChildren."

U.K. tabloid The Daily Mail published a series of screenshot tweets that suggested that the president drew on the white dress with a black Sharpie marker. The marker alludes to a famous incident where Trump allegedly suggested an alternate path for Hurricane Dorian, which ravaged the Bahamas in 2019, by drawing on a map with a marker, USA TODAY reported.

Speculations behind Melania's fashion moments are not new. In 2019, Twitter users claimed that the first lady's July 4 dress was an endorsement of gay pride. During a 2018 trip to Texas to visit a migrant children's children shelter, users criticized Trump for wearing a jacket that read "I REALLY DON'T CARE, DO U?""

"Was the first lady sending a secret message to QAnon believers through her clothing?

That's what a Facebook user Liz Cronkin suggested in a July 4 post to the page "The Storm Has Arrived." The page is a collection hub for social media posts that supposedly prove "QAnon." A far-right wing conspiracy theory about politicians and A-list celebrities engaging in child sex abuse with the help of the governments around the world, QAnon has found a home in the Republican Party, according to CNN.

More:Fact check: Ellen, Oprah, many others are not under house arrest for child sex trafficking

Cronkin wrote that Trump was trying to secretly communicate with QAnon followers, theorizing that the drawings on the dress were inspired by the "victims of sexual abuse and/or Satanic Ritualistic Abuse."

"The First Lady has a history of communicating with us through her outfits as anons well know. Children are often incapable of describing their abuse in words, so they draw," Cronkin wrote. "

Trump counting on a 'silent majority' that may never be heard

by W. James Antle III

July 09, 2020 12:00 AM

"President Trump is staking his reelection on a “silent majority” of people who he believes will rally to him as the last line of defense against urban lawlessness and attacks on national symbols. But the silent majority may not translate into either a popular vote or an electoral majority, Republican strategists increasingly fear.

“Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities,” Trump said in his Fourth of July celebration remarks at Mount Rushmore. Zeroing in on both the cultural conflicts and traditional “law-and-order” themes, Trump declared, “The American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them.”

Trump tweeted last month: “THE VAST SILENT MAJORITY IS ALIVE AND WELL!!! We will win this Election big." At his June 20 Tulsa rally, Trump decried an “unhinged left-wing mob” but vowed, "the silent majority is stronger than ever before."

The phrase is borrowed from Richard Nixon, who was elected president in 1968 during a similar period of unrest. While accepting the Republican nomination, he celebrated “the great majority of Americans, the forgotten Americans, the non-shouters, the non-demonstrators.” He added, “They’re not racist or sick, they’re not guilty of the crime that plagues the land. They are good people; they are decent people. They work hard, and they save, and they pay their taxes, and they care.”

This is similar to how Trump describes the MAGA base. His backers also frequently talk about “hidden voters” who exist undetected by pollsters and aided his unexpected 2016 win."

Geoffrey Berman to testify before House Judiciary Committee

on circumstances of his firing

Kristine Phillips & Kevin Johnson

USA TODAY 2:00 a.m. ET Jul. 9, 2020

"WASHINGTON – Geoffrey Berman, whose unceremonious firing as head of the Justice Department's most prestigious office remains clouded with questions, will speak to lawmakers Thursday about the circumstances surrounding his ouster, a spokesperson said.

Manhattan's former chief federal prosecutor will testify behind closed-doors before the House Judiciary Committee, which has been investigating allegations of political interference within the Justice Department. His testimony begins at noon ET.

The potentially dramatic testimony from Berman, whose office has investigated and prosecuted several of President Donald Trump's allies, could raise further questions about the Justice Department's independence from a White House that has purged watchdogs, whistleblowers and others seen as disloyal.

'What had happened was wrong':DOJ lawyers accuse agency leaders of abusing power in Roger Stone case, other probes

Two weeks ago, two Justice Department prosecutors accused the agency's leadership of abusing its power at the president's behest. One, a career Justice Department attorney who prosecuted Roger Stone, accused the agency's leaders of giving the longtime GOP operative favorable treatment because he's an ally of the president."

MADE IN CHINA: Contractor indicted for defrauding US Navy

about origin of armor & helmets

9 Jul, 2020 01:06

"A grand jury indictment of a Virginia man whose company allegedly sold Chinese-made helmets and body armor to the government is challenging President Donald Trump’s claim the Pentagon gets only the best American-made goods.

Surveillance Equipment Group Inc. (SEG) CEO Arthur Morgan was charged with two counts of federal wire fraud this week, over some $660,000 worth of ballistic vests, helmets, riot gear, and other items his company sold to six federal agencies between September 2014 and August 2019.

Approximately 11 orders were placed with SEG Armor, the company’s division that Morgan managed from Lorton, Virginia. The Maryland grand jury alleges that Morgan, 67, falsely reported the goods were manufactured in the US or Hong Kong, while they were in fact imported from China.

The General Services Administration (GSA) requires all contractors to sell products only from “designated countries” under the Trade Agreements Act (TAA). China is not one of those countries."

Come on, Anon. Most of us know that most of us are not as the media portrays us. What [they] are hyping is a bunch of misguided youth easily led to slaughter, paid by Soros and "We are watching a Movie".

Religion? I promote a personal relationship with whatever the individual believes is their creator/source yet beyond that it get's real sticky with most people.

Prayer is most definitely beneficial yet for far too long all that many good people did was pray. I have known many.

They were taught that they were bad from birth, Sinful, dirty and that they deserve all of this suffering which I feel is primarily false.

I think Modern Religion is mainly used to divide when it could be used to bring peace.

Apologies that I feel the need to explain.
