Serbian defense minister says protests are ‘COUP ATTEMPT’, aim to spark CIVIL WAR

Violent clashes that rocked Belgrade and other cities this week were “carefully prepared,” and are aimed at seizing power and igniting a civil war in Serbia, the Balkan country’s defense minister has alleged.

What started as a demonstration against the government-planned curfew over the coronavirus eventually got out of hand and snowballed into massive riots that saw mostly young people assaulting police squads in Belgrade and other major Serbian cities.

The brewing unrest is actually a coup attempt, Serbian Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin opined on Thursday while speaking on local television. The “terrible street violence” has purely political backgrounds, he argued.

We have a coup attempt, we have an attempt to seize power by force and an attempt to provoke a civil war in Serbia. It cannot be described in any other way.

President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Tuesday that a curfew would be put in place this Friday and run throughout the weekend. Right after, thousands of people gathered outside the parliament.

They clashed with police while apparently trying to get into the building. Riot squads fired tear gas to force the crowds back.

According to Defense Minister Vulin, the protests were a coordinated action and “did not happen by accident.” He noted that media coverage across the Balkans was generally hostile toward the Serbian government, which, again, “is not accidental.”

It is obvious that there is an orchestrated [media] campaign because they do not want a successful and stable Serbia.

The Balkan nation has reported over 17,000 Covid-19 cases and over 340 fatalities. Mass protests, in which people didn’t keep apart, have only increased the risk of spreading the contagion, Vulin warned.

“I wonder who will be responsible for the fact that hundreds and thousands of people became infected yesterday and the day before yesterday,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Vucic backtracked on the curfew. The government is expected to try other measures, including shortened hours for public spaces and fines for those not wearing protective masks.

The uproar caused by PM Boris Johnson blaming care homes for the spread of coronavirus shows no sign of lessening, following revelations that cash was paid to those facilities prepared to take in hundreds of untested patients from hospitals as a council desperately tried to free up beds.

BoJo’s apparent “misspeak” – an excuse when someone unintentionally reveals what they truly think – that “too many care homes didn’t really follow the procedures in the way that they could have” has opened the floodgates to revelations of some very dubious behaviour at the outset of the pandemic.

And right up among the many missteps made throughout this crisis is the rush in Birmingham, the UK’s second largest city, to empty its NHS hospital beds of hundreds of patients, freeing up space for an expected flood of critically ill coronavirus victims.

To expedite this, the City Council admits it paid 16 care homes an incentive of £1,000 each to take in hospital patients. The proviso at the time was that the care homes had to move quickly and accept the discharged patients, whether or not they were infected with the virus.

Shows the Supreme Court is corrupt no other option but to use military to restore the rule of LAW

At least 3 killed, 6 injured as military truck explodes while transporting fireworks from Turkish factory

A military truck transporting unexploded munitions, from the site of a blast at a fireworks factory in Turkey last week, exploded itself on Thursday, killing three people and injuring six others.

The fireworks and unexploded munitions were being transported to a quarry to be destroyed, but when the truck reached its destination some of the fireworks exploded without warning at roughly 12pm local time.

Eyewitness footage from the area shows the aftermath of the deadly accident as dozens of emergency services vehicles scrambled to the scene.

John Solomon: Indictments Imminent In 'Obamagate' Probe

Investigative reporter John Solomon says there's a "lot of activity" in U.S. Attorney John Durham's criminal investigation of the Obama administration's probe of now-debunked claims of Trump-Russia collusion during the 2016 election.

"My sources tell me there's a lot of activity. I'm seeing, personally, activity behind the scenes [showing] the Department of Justice is trying to bring those first indictments," Solomon said in an interview with the Fox Business Network's Lou Dobbs reported by the Washington Examiner.

"And I would look for a time around Labor Day to see the first sort of action by the Justice Department."

Solomon said he's seeing "action consistent with building prosecutions and preparing for criminal plea bargains."

"Until they bring it before the grand jury you never know if it's going to happen. I'm seeing activity consistent with that."

Top former officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan, are said to be targets of the Durham investigation.

‘Hypocrisy is exposed in full’: China hits out at Australia over new visa rules for Hong Kong & extradition treaty suspension

While “clanking” about rejecting foreign interference, Australia is meddling in China’s affairs itself by halting an extradition treaty with Hong Kong and offering its residents a safe haven, Beijing’s embassy stated.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s government announced earlier on Thursday that it will grant Hongkongers a five-year visa extension and “a pathway to permanent residency.”

“There will be citizens of Hong Kong who may be looking to move elsewhere, to start a new life somewhere else, to take their skills, their businesses,” Morrison said.

Later in the day, Beijing’s diplomatic mission in Canberra hit back at the announcement, saying that it “strongly deplores and opposes the groundless accusations and measures announced by the Australian government with regard to Hong Kong.”

Calling the safe haven offer “a serious violation of international law,” it stated that Morrison’s government is actually engaging in what it is officially against.

Australia has “blatantly interfered” in China’s domestic affairs although it “has been clanking that they oppose “foreign interference,’” the statement reads. “Its hypocrisy and double standard is exposed in full.”

Separately, China’s Foreign Ministry warned that it reserves the right to respond in kind to the Australian offer, as spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters.

Morrison has also said that Australia is suspending its extradition agreement with Hong Kong as China’s newly-adopted national security law marks "a fundamental change of circumstances.” The hotly-debated legislation gives Beijing more power to deal with secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with foreign powers aimed against China in Hong Kong.

The prime minister’s announcement came days after the country escalated a travel advisory, telling Australians working and living in Hong Kong to “reconsider your need to remain” there if they feel threatened by the national security law.

It also alleged that Australian citizens are at risk of “arbitrary detention” in mainland China – a claim the Chinese Embassy brushed aside as “completely ridiculous and disinformation.”

According to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the sanctions make the individuals "ineligible" for entry into the US.

The decision will likely provoke a response from Beijing beyond just the angry rhetoric they often employ, as President Xi and top Communist Party officials have specifically denounced American economic sanctions on individuals and Chinese companies as "politically motivated" attempts to undercut the Chinese economy.

Notably, the move follows the UK's decision to use new "Magnitsky" powers adopted by the British government to impose sanctions on individuals involved in "human rights abuses" from Russia, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and Myanmar. Those targeted include senior Saudi intelligence officials believed to have been involved in the Khashoggi murder, as well as Russian officials implicated in the death of Sergei Magnitsky, a lawyer who died in a Moscow prison after purportedly uncovering a massive fraud.

Both President Xi and President Putin have criticized the US for abusing its sanction powers, claiming that the end result will be more countries shying away from the greenback and using other currencies (the ruble, perhaps. or just straight gold) to store foreign reserves.

One twitter user offered some insight into who these men are. All of them, it seems, are senior CCP officials; one is a chief of police in Xinjiang, where nearly a million Muslims are believed to be held in captivity.

UK telecom firms warn rushing to phase out Huawei 5G gear will take years & cost billions

At least five years, “ideally seven,” will be needed to replace Huawei’s 5G equipment, Vodafone and BT have told British MPs. The introduction of the ultra-fast networks across the country would be delayed, they warned.

Executives from rival companies British Telecom and Vodafone UK have given their takes on phasing out the 5G equipment manufactured by the Chinese IT giant. Speculation that the UK government could ban Huawei’s gear from British networks has circulated in the press in recent days.

Andrea Dona, head of networks at Vodafone UK, told Parliament’s Science and Technology Committee that replacing the Huawei systems with alternative ones will take at least five years. “The replacement doesn’t happen overnight,” the executive warned.

He said it would involve physically switching off the signal and disconnecting the 5G antenna. The “service-affecting” action would be “highly disruptive for our customers and for our businesses,” Dona said, when pressed to explain what could happen if the company is told to phase out the Chinese-made gear in two years.

People across the UK will be left without service “for a couple of days, depending on how big and how intrusive the work to be carried out is.” Further restrictions “will have an effect, it will delay the rollout of our 5G,” he added, stressing that it would have cost implications worth “single figure billions.”

“It is logistically impossible, I believe, to get to zero in a three-year period. That would literally mean blacking out the customers on 3G and 4G as well as 5G throughout the country,” stated Howard Watson, BT’s chief technology officer. “We would definitely not recommend that we go down this route,” he urged.

Aside from disruptions in mobile phone coverage, there would be other challenges, Watson said. In London, many 5G masts are installed on the rooftops, so dismantling them would involve sealing off adjacent streets and bringing in cranes. “We believe we need five years, ideally seven” to get the works done, the BT official said.

“There’s no way I can lose.” That is the title of a Bloomberg article today looking “Inside China’s Stock-Market Frenzy”. It notes ‘Leo Li, a 28-yar old freelance screenwriter in southern city of Kunming, says he’s “pretty much all-in” on stocks but isn’t borrowing to maximize returns – yet. “With leverage, it only makes sense to add it when you can be 100% certain of gains,” said Li, adding that his family sold property last year to buy stocks, “That usually happens when the old grannies start rushing in during the mid-to late stage of a rally. We are not there yet, but when the time comes I will be ready.”’ It’s nice to see young investors with such a keen understanding of the fundamentals of this rally – which are not related to Chinese CPI and PPI at 2.5% y/y (as expected) and -3.0% y/y (slightly better than the consensus), which is a very bad combination for many firms.

Yet that’s good news: it means more need for central banks to get the grannies to dive in to stocks. As do two contrasting Anglo-Saxon fiscal developments.

In the UK, Chancellor Sunak has gone kitchen sink with a mini-budget including no stamp duty on house purchases up to GBP500,000; VAT cut from 20% to 5%; paying firms GBP1,000 per head to bring back a furloughed worker; paying employers to create jobs for 16-24 year olds; green grants for households; and government meal vouchers for 50% off a sit-down-meal (up to GBP10 per head) from Mondays to Wednesdays. 10-year gilts sit just off record lows of 0.15%.

In the US, Joe Biden is largely eschewing Sanders’ radical policy agenda. No Medicare for all, tuition-free public college, or the Green New Deal in his released policy proposals. There are green targets, prohibiting government contracts to firms that pay less than USD15 per hour, and a pledge public procurement will buy American (which is Trumpian). Yet what we do not see is a kitchen-sink fiscal approach: the message is “gradualism”. Likewise, there is still no Trump fiscal plan to speak of. 10-year Treasuries sit at 0.66%.

Kavanaugh & Gorsuch rule against Trump in Supreme Court tax returns case

Trump’s hotly-pursued tax returns may see the light of day, after the Supreme Court ruled that his financial records can be handed over to a New York grand jury in a decision supported by three conservative justices.

In a 7-2 ruling, the court found that a subpoena issued to Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars LLP, can be enforced, and dismissed Trump’s lawyers’ argument that he is immune from criminal proceedings. The request was part of a criminal investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, and years of Trump’s tax returns will now have to be turned over to a grand jury.

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh, who were both nominated to the Supreme Court by Trump, along with another conservative, John Roberts, sided with their four liberal colleagues in the ruling.

The decision itself and the position taken by the president’s appointees prompted glee from Democrats at the turnaround.

Democrats have been insisting on seeing Trump’s tax returns since the 2016 campaign, and even floated the idea that this should be a condition for his opponent Joe Biden to participate in the debates. But the documents so far will only be available to the jury, and it’s unclear if the public would see them before the November election.

The Supreme Court also threw out related rulings allowing committees in the Democratic-led House of Representatives to obtain the president’s financial records, sending the issue back to lower courts. The committees had issued subpoenas to his accounting firm, Capital One bank and Deutsche Bank.

Trump was among those to react, tweeting that it was “all a political prosecution,” and that he will “have to keep fighting in a politically corrupt New York.” He pointed out that nothing happened to the “totally corrupt previous Administration, including a President and Vice President who spied on my campaign, AND GOT CAUGHT.”

Black peace activists fight Minneapolis City Council's plan to dismantle the police: 'It's time to stand up … utopia is a bunch of BS'

'We are not in Mayberry'

Following the protests that stemmed from the killing of George Floyd by a city cop, the Minneapolis City Council pledged last month to begin the process of dismantling the Minneapolis Police Department. But that plan has not sat well with citizens who have seen crime grow in their communities and want to know what will be done if they're no longer able to count on the police.

Now a group of black peace activists is taking on the leadership of the city of Minneapolis over its push to dismantle the police.

The group held an "urgent news conference" Tuesday to raise their voices against the council's plan, WCCO-TV reported.

One of the activists, Lisa Clemons, who is a former police officer and is now with "A Mother's Love," told reporters, "We cannot continue to watch these bullets flying through our community."

For Clemons and her fellow advocates for peace, the time has come to "stand up" to the City Council and call its plan what it is: "B.S."

"It is time for us to stand up in this city. It is time to tell the City Council that utopia is a bunch of B.S.," Clemons said.

With the recent escalation in shootings in the city, she said Minneapolis is more like the Old West.

"We are not in Mayberry R.F.D.," she said. "We are in the wild, wild, West, and it is time for some answers."

Calling out a council member

Shortly after the news conference, Clemons was speaking to WCCO outside the venue when City Councilwoman Andrea Jenkins happen to pass by. The councilwoman was one of the members who voted to move closer to dismantling the police.

Clemons challenged Jenkins to come answer some questions, and Jenkins obliged.

When challenged on her position on dismantling the police, Jenkins said she knows the city still needs public safety officers, but the force needs to be "reimagined."

"I want to reimagine a police force that responds to the community in a way that is respectful," Jenkins said.

Clemons challenged Jenkins on the "recent surge in street violence."

"My only response to that is we are going to have, we will have those conversations," Jenkins replied. "We are in an emergency situation."

Despite the council's pledge to dismantle the police, ultimately any change would have to be voted on by the people of Minneapolis, WCCO noted.

U.S. Army Message: ‘Make America Great Again,’ Columbus Day Are Signs of ‘White Supremacy’

A U.S. Army email, sent after the Fourth of July to its military and civilian members, included a graphic which claimed saying the phrase “Make America Great Again” is evidence of “white supremacy.”

The graphic listed other behaviors it deemed evidence of white supremacy, including, “Celebration of Columbus Day,” the “Denial of White Privilege,” “Talking about ‘American Exceptionalism,'” and saying “There’s Only One Human Race.”

The email invited “all soldiers and (Department of the Army) Civilian Personnel” to attend the U.S. Army’s “Operation Inclusion” seminars on July 8 and 9 at the Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Alabama. The email was sent by Chaney P. Pickard from the U.S. Army Aviation & Missile Center using an official government email.

The message named the “U.S. Army Equity & Inclusion Agency” and “Assistant Secretary of the Army — Manpower and Reserve Affairs” as authors.

Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) — who caught wind of the email — blasted the “deeply offensive and racist U.S. Army ‘Operation Inclusion'” content and demanded the firing and prosecution of Army personnel who used government resources to distribute political propaganda.

Brooks said the email is in “clear violation” of the Hatch Act, which bans government personnel from engaging in political activity while at work.

The seminars are part of a listening tour for the Army’s “Operation Inclusion,” led by the U.S. Army’s Inclusion Advisory Team.

“Disturbingly, the Army chose Redstone Arsenal as the first location on a tour that will cover all Army 4 star commands,” Brooks added.

Brooks has sent a letter to U.S. Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, demanding an investigation.

“Numerous Redstone Arsenal employees have expressed outrage to me about the U.S. Army blatantly violating the Hatch Act and, in effect, labeling patriotic Americans ‘White Supremacists’ and racists if they say or do dozens of things outlined in the U.S. Army email,” he said.

Brooks asked McCarthy to answer the following:

1. Who within the Department of the Army is responsible for the creation of the email and document?

2. Who within the Department of the Army approved the email and document?

3. Pursuant to the creation and approval of the document, was there a violation of either the Hatch Act or DoD Directive 1344.10?

4. If a violation of the Hatch Act or DoD Directive 1344.10 is found to have occurred, will those responsible be held accountable for their actions?

5. If it is found that a violation occurred (which seems pretty obvious), how will those federal employees be held accountable for their illegal conduct?

Copies of the letter also went to President Donald Trump, Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and Attorney General William Barr, among others.

Barr: We’re Sending ‘Well over 100 Federal Agents’ to Kansas City to Combat Crime

During an interview with ABC News released on Wednesday, Attorney General William Barr announced that the Department of Justice will place “well over 100 federal agents” in Kansas City, MO to help state and local officials combat gang violence in the city in response to a request for federal assistance from state and local officials in dealing with the spikes in crime in the city.

Barr said, “Well, the president recently said to states and cities that the federal government is ready, willing, and able to come in and help. We just received a request, yesterday, actually, from Missouri, the governor of Missouri and the city of Kansas City. They’ve had a serious spiking in crime, particularly murders. … And so, we are going to go in. A 4-year-old, African American boy, who had recovered recently from open-heart surgery was shot in the face while he was lying in his bed. And his name was LeGend. And so, we’re going to launch Operation Legend in Kansas City and put in well over 100 federal agents to augment the agents we already have there working with the state and local to go after the gangs that are responsible for this.”

Nancy Pelosi OK with Destruction of Christopher Columbus Statue in Baltimore: ‘People Will Do What They Do’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) told reporters Thursday that she did not oppose the violent, unlawful removal and destruction of a statue of Christopher Columbus on July 4 in her native city of Baltimore, Maryland.

“People will do what they do,” she said.

Black Lives Matter protesters dragged the Columbus statue off the pedestal where it had stood for over thirty-five years in the Little Italy neighborhood.

It smashed into pieces on the ground, and the frenzied crowd leaped and danced before dragging the remnants of the sculpture into the Inner Harbor.

As Breitbart News reported, the statute had been dedicated by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 in recognition of the achievements of the Italian-American community, and immigrants generally.

“The ideals which many successive Italian immigrants brought with them are at the very heart of America. I’m speaking of hard work, love of family, patriotism, and respect for God,” Reagan said on that occasion.

Pelosi was asked about the destruction of the statue at her press briefing in the House of Representatives on Thursday:

Q: Madam Speaker, this question is close to home for you. The city of Richmond is obviously in sync with your desire to get rid of Confederate statues. But in Baltimore, in Little Italy, the statue of Christopher Columbus was removed, or taken down, and I wonder if you have anything to share with that.

Pelosi: Well, I’m not — you know, I don’t even have my grandmother’s earrings. I’m not a big let’s-see-what-we-have-in-monuments, and this. I’m more interested in what people have accomplished. I think that it’s uptimes to the communities to decide what statues they want to see. But I think that it’s very important that we take down any of the statues of people who committed treason against the United States of America, as those statues exist in the halls of Congress, in the Rotunda — not the Rotunda, I don’t think, but in the Statuary Hall and the rest, some of them are. But I’m not one of those people who’s wedded to, oh, a statue, to somebody someplace is an important thing. I don’t — again, if the community doesn’t want the statue there, the statue shouldn’t be there. Doesn’t diminish my pride in my Italian-American heritage, and the fact that it was a country discovered by an Italian, named for an Italian, Amerigo Vespucci. So — I have that pride. But I don’t care that much about statues.

Q: Shouldn’t that be done by a — respectfully, shouldn’t that be done by a commission, or the city council, not a mob in the middle of the night, throwing it into the harbor?

Pelosi: People will do what they do. It’s a — I do think that from a safety standpoint it would be a good idea, to have it taken down if the community doesn’t want it. I don’t know that it has to be a commission, but it just could be a community view. And sometimes it’s something that’s been there, that view has been there for a while.

Pelosi represents San Francisco but is originally from Baltimore. Her father was the mayor, and oversaw the dedication of a statue honoring Confederate military leaders Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee in 1948.
