I had the basis for a doctoral thesis in classics as an undergraduate. My Greek professor suggested I take it to Penn State. This was in the early 90s.
I did a lot of hanging out with grad students at that time. I was by no means "awake", but my deepest instincts steered me away from pursuing a career in academe.
I should not have been unkind to you. It's just the tone of this board. I sincerely hope that you can find a way to change jobs. It must be fucking miserable to exist in that environment.
