Yeah, China literally rerouted our entire DoD network through a small village in China. The name sounds like DingDong, may have even been that.
I reported it 3 damn times, and was told I was an idiot for believing Langley wouldn't notice or that it could even happen.
2 years later, I would get torn a new one for mentioning the name of the city in China in jest on an international conference call.
I was threatened w/an article 15 and they demanded I tell them how I knew, "Simple, I found it and reported it 3x jackasses!"
It's the reason we can no longer plug USB thumb drives into gov computers. The original worm used the info on the RAM at startup to run the initial code, from there they used embedded hardware to essentially hijack everything.
Sorry, I am the sauce, it all came about teaching a young Airman things you could accomplish via cmd prompt, ie ipconfig.
We would plug the ip info into the free online IP checker thing to demonstrate that it's more than just a number. It always came up "Langley Virgina", this particular day, it came up as Dingdong, China.
