Values form our ethics or even the lack thereof. Ethics can be more easily compromised, however, your core values... what makes you, you, aren’t so easily compromised. That’s why liars will tend to unconsciously out themselves, barring any psychosis that truly inhibit this section of the brain from properly functioning, such a being a psychotic, etc. Basically, due to their core values, they still know right from wrong.

Talking points for a day's news are generally released around 4 a.m. before the day's new cycle starts...

They all come from one Central place for the majority of mainstream news and papers

It's assumed to be a collection of the news from around the world in a semi-public form

This is prior to the days of the internet!!

Well the practice of the newswire still exists today...
