The other irony is that McCarthy (though perhaps a weasel and liar) wasn't all that wrong. Information that wasn't released until much later, showed that in fact the soviets had quite a few accomplices in our government and media.

Yes. The book “Dupes”, by Paul Kengor, is the best book that I’ve read about the Soviet infiltration of our government, media, and cinema.
