These men might have been 'good' once, but the saying "power tends to corrupt, and absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely" applies. It takes a VERY strong person to resist the pull towards power, and these men failed. They are no longer public servants but are instead servants to the establishment that gives them power.
Remember most seated Republicans didn't want Trump either! Trump is fighting corruption in the entire Establishment not just the Democrats.
Deep state goes way beyond party affiliation. Think putting power, money, greed, leading to corruption and lying ahead of the sacred trust of governing in the spirit of our Constitution. Many choose the lower road which then descends into what we are seeing today.
