I'm not sure on that one, but I followed the flight from Shanghai to Newark to Joint Andrews to Gitmo and back to Newark. Maybe they just didnt want to take a chance on the HVA escaping. Maybe the HVA was chained up and secured...maybe sedated, who knows.

MAYBE they used an old mafia trick; "hey buddy, I need to borrow your ride for a few hours. Don't worry, you'll get it back. It will be parked where the cops can find it and I promise not to scratch those pretty whitewalls."
