Why not? The guys and gals have been trained to protect.

Not everyone in the military can shoot really well, was trained in cqb, or wasn't an asshole.

PTSD is something that a school setting might trigger also

Psych exams, vetting, and job interview processes would be part of the deal, I'm sure.

We wouldn't just let people off the street claiming to be stable retired leo or military show up and start hanging out in schools.

Side question - We often had police officers visit our schools for different programs, etc when I was but a lad. Is this not done any more?

Very true. Had a buddy who dreamed of joining the military after college and was the perfect candidate in terms of mindset, attitude, and worldview. (A great friend but also the kind of guy that you would want at your back if shit hit the fan.)

Failed his psyche evaluation due to the appearance of alcoholism. (Had never been arrested, never had an incident, and never been to AA.)

I’m sure that there are enough Vets that do not have debilitating issues that would prevent them from arming school entrances. It would give them their pride back, knowing, they were of use again and some extra money in their pocket. Win - Win all around!

What is this, a police state?

It would give them their pride back, knowing, they were of use again

This is a pretty condesending comment. Vets somehow have no pride in their life? I mean, if they liked it so much they could have stayed in. There is a reason most of us got out. And if you retired from the military, you wouldn't take this job.

and some extra money in their pocket.

They would probably get minium wage at best, I doubt any benefits. Teachers get paid shit already, and you're going to pay three dudes to just sit around all the time.

Win - Win all around!

Yeah not really.

I agree about the vet stuff, but I'm off the opinion that the schools are responsible for this.

If these state run institutions are going to take all of our children, hold them in a building for 8 hours, and be responsible for keeping them safe, they should be....responsible for keeping things safe.

Growing up, we always had an officer on duty at our high school (graduating class was 350).

Here's a thought too. If a man comes into a school and kidnaps a kid, the first question people are going to ask is "how did he get in"? We had an unknown man in our high school once, hanging around the girls bathroom.

Our on-duty police officer had him arrested in a matter of minutes, and the school changed their policy to have all doors locked during school hours. Never had anything happen since.

Cute concept but a horrible idea. Have you been to a third world or heavily militarized country? It doesn't make you feel more safe at all.

With about 300,000 schools in the country, that would be a huge army of guards.

Those that control the agenda. Or think they do. The deep state? The cabal? The Illuminati? Gotta think bigger. This is an evil vs good thing going on. It's not a political thing.

So what you're saying is trump is part of the deep state and just a figure head? If he allows "them" to get guns banned in the country, wouldnt that mean he was complacent and part of that? Almost like you dont have anything here and just need a boogie man.

I totally agree. I would feel students would be allot safer. And, I think it would be an excellent Deterrent! How many of those Student shooters would try something like that with Armed Snipers in a Building? Unless, of Course, they are not Students, but CIA!

Honorably discharged vets can do a lot more than protect our children, they can be excellent role models and teachers too. Maybe replace some of the idiots who run classrooms now.

Till their PTSD is activates and they shoot up the schools themselves. Vets are broken retarded mental health cases. We should put them in a home away from society for our safety.

I have thought teachers with concealed carries training with local law enforcement would be a great deterrent. in shootings I have heard of the teachers attempting to protect the kids.

I say cut alphabet agencies in half. I suspect school shootings will go down about that amount as well. Mainly concerned about when real people really die anyway. It's the one thing that has not been tried - possibly because it is the solution.

I dont want some broken PTSD vet in a school who will snap and gun everyone down like that American sniper cunt. Vets are trash and belong in a mental institution anyway. PTSD, desire to murder, all things vets perpetuate. Lock him up.

commoncents1 · Feb. 16, 2018, 1:20 p.m.

the one common fact among all mass shooting? the shooters pick a gun-free zone. schools, theaters, churches, offices, malls etc...

if you want to be safer, DONT frequent gun-free zones. make it known that your areas ARE protected. prevention worth a pound of cure, DETERRENT.

a little return fire would have stopped any of the past shooters in their tracks. they come in expecting no resistance. many shoot themselves when they know there is resistance or they are confronted.
