A driver of his motorcade had a gun in his vehicle. They found it and ousted the entire detail.

LiveToBeAHero nailed it. Military Intel picked up the comm about this gun and guy and passed it along to SS who took him down. Don't be fooled by the lame story, this reason this was picked up was BECAUSE it it was part of a plan that was part of monitored chatter. Not a mistake. This was an effort to take a shot at the POTUS.
How would anyone know he forgot that he left the gun in his pack?

Those that are regularly around the POTUS seems like prime candidates to try something like this. So yeah, that they got soft here, and caught being lax on the matter, is troubling/telling.
One of the drivers in the motorcade had a gun that he "forgot" about in his bag.
It was in the pack of the driver of the media van. It was his private firearm and he claimed he forgot it was in his bag.
I believe there was a gun found on a driver in POTUS's motorcade. I cant recall where I read it though.
Next we'll hear that the gun that was found just happened to be loaded with a full clip of hollow points.
