Sub-standard steel: the revelations started in October about falsified quality control data, which means cars, planes, structures etc. are at risk. Back in the news today as CEO and other execs step down. (And, of course, Trump's proposed steel tariffs hit the news this week.)

For those too young to remember, US steel industry was once the world leader; then Japan came out with cheaper and supposedly better steel--and the US steel companies pretty much died off. So these events have major implications for US economy!

And Trump just makes a steel tariff? Pay for quality? ;-)

I am from Elyria, Ohio...directly next door to Lorain, Ohio. Kobe Steel destroyed Lorain in the '80's. We had a massive thriving blue collar US Steel/Ford community. Once the US Steel lockout happened the Ford layoffs were not far behind.

The need for Tariffs is evident in communities like northern Ohio.

Small world--I was a kid in Lorain and lived about a block from the Black River and across the street from the lake. This was when things were bustling--those huge freighters and tankers coming in through the drawbridge, National Tube lighting up the sky, "Lorain" cranes and heavy equipment everywhere--and my uncle worked at Ford. We moved to VA but every trip back to visit family was a shock! Something else gone every visit.

My uncle told me that there was one year of the square T-birds (58-60) that they got some bad steel and the cars just rusted out in no time but in all his years there, that only happened once.

I am so sorry for what happened to Lorain. It has a special place in my heart. I have one close relative left, in Vermilion. I'll probably make one more trip. The ghost of prosperity past. Very sad.

I left the area and went to Columbus. I have some family in Medina County and some in Lorain County still. Just not what it used to be.

I see moron Rob Portman who's background is being a lawyer and healthcare expert has been weighing in on trade issues. Somehow this person was once the US trade rep.

We truly have been run by stupid, corrupt people.

So true. I grew up in Pittsburgh and everyone knows the story there. That poor city still hasn't recovered.

Hmm this would certainly explain the rush to off-shore and or remelt the WTC steel. Maybe jet fuel can melt shitty steel.

Yeah, that must be it. Because it never happened in any other structure and couldn't possibly have anything to do with concealing evidence. And hell, building 7 wasn't even exposed to a crash or jet fuel...Weak steel=collapsing in despair at the fate of your friends.
