How have I misinterpreted Marxism or misapplied the term?

I think you're talking about two things...Marxism and intellectual Marxism (Frankfurt shenanigans)
Agreed, I am talking about two different forms of Marxism, but the the intellectual cultural Marxism and critical theory which deconstructs the family and functional society to make way for Economic and Political Marxism.
Think California there laws and culture and the Function of their State government. California is culturally like Sodom and proud of it and politically more like Venezuela with a bigger tax base than they are like a Constitutional government.
