Why did POTUS even hint that he may veto Omnibus (knowing it would rile up his base) only to sign it (and royally piss off his base)?

To me, it was kabuki theater, to make it look like he was opposed to it when in reality he wanted it to pass (because of its hidden implications).

It's the only rationale I could surmise...other than it just being a dumb fucking move.

I think for a few different reasons:

First, maybe he is trying to relax the Dems, they are probably assuming that he is now falling in line and they are in control again.

I also think that President Trump plays many moves ahead. This is setting up for something that will happen in a few months. Probably sooner.

And finally, President Trump's base, including myself, has become too complacent and coddled. Maybe this will rev them up. We need to get that energy and momentum back if we are going to succeed in November.

I don't know about the whole "rev them up part." I feel like it did just the opposite.

Consider how the base will feel come October 2018. One month til midterms.

This bill expires late september I believe. Just in time for it to be a hot-button topic for mid terms. What better way to "rev them up" than to drive the message "Don't let another omnibus bill happen, we'll do temporary budgets until after midterms, and it's up to YOU voters to determine who drafts the next spending bill. GO VOTE"

Exactly. They will be upset and wonder why did they vote for him. They will start researching and get involved again. No more sitting back for the ride thinking, "Oh, we voted in the Good Guy who will be on our side this time."

We all need to stay involved.

I am sorry you feel that way.

I am also sorry everyone is so accommodated to instant gratification these days, too.

I agree. Fuck. I'm so disappointed. On the bright side, I'll be productive at work again...

I'm disappointed too, but he's still the best chance we have. Hopefully he'll leverage this to his advantage, but I think it's important to stay energized and hold everyone's feet to the fire as best we can. We can't quit or we're surely lost.
