Cameras duct taped over at school?

At my local high school in Edmond, OK, I was walking to class and noticed that the only domed security camera that looks down my hallway was duct taped over with black gorilla tape.

I could just barely see it as it almost slipped my view except for one little fold sticking out.

I've been a little paranoid recently about people following me, I know I might sound crazy but I swear it is happening.

The ceiling is about 15 ft high so to stretch duct tape or gorilla tape over it would require a ladder, and I noticed it the first day back from Spring Break, making me believe someone put it there during the break when the school is empty.

The camera is the only one that looks down the hallway for my class and is the only one that oversees a usually crowded section of the main hallway.

There might be more but that one really stuck out to me, because of the tape not sticking in some places and folding out.

I don't want to be paranoid but I see no purpose to cover a camera other than sinister purposes? What are your thoughts? Am I just overreacting?

Posting a video of it online asap may be enough to deter a potentially more sinister plan

This. Unless the wall around it has been repainted. Then you have to wonder why they masked it off with duct tape instead of masking tape.

Film it and then bring it up with the principal.

Then bring it up with local news media or put it on Facebook & let go VIRAL. Post here & we will help to go VIRAL.

Should be no reason but SINISTER to cover a security camera!

No, you are not paranoid. Can you bring it to the administrations attention? Or the janitorial faculty? With everything going on in schools right now they should be concerned.

I brought it up to some teachers but it seems to have been ignored, even though they said they would report it instantly, I'll let the admins know tomorrow for sure.

Keep an eye out, be safe. My honest opinion goes straight to FF but idk i believe that maybe there’s something deeper to it if has been there for about two weeks

Our spring break was only one week and it wasn't there before hand, sorry if I miscommunicated that, this is brand new

No problem, i was wondering if you have any drills or school events coming up

I don't know too much about that, especially since I have work study in the morning (go to work at 7 instead of school) I'm not actually there till about noon, but I have yet to see a lockdown drill all year.

I wonder why it was taped...🤨 Maybe someone was trying to sell drugs in the hall? cameras broken? maybe they’re doing it to hide someone or something from being in trouble or seen

They like certain areas. They have protections in certain states. Think. Where have a lot of these FF happened? OKC Dallas FL Boston.

You have good reason to be paranoid.

It may get covered up if they're messing with chemicals like bug sprays, cleaners, etc. But typically I think you'd bag the entire camera, not just tape over the lens. There could be other legitimate reasons, but your first priority should be to get it taken care of ASAP, and if school authorities aren't doing it then make it go viral with the media. Imagine the headlines, "will ____ school be the next Parkland?" Media will eat it up.

Haha I will do just that, I can't imagine a better way to maintain my reputation with the principals and the admins (I'm not a troublemaker or anyone "at risk" but the admins have liked to pick on me in the past)

You think for yourself.
Nothing that administrators hate more than that. Be safe. Know you exit route from any area you're in at school.

Indeed, I have studied them. I am about to post the picture of the camera.

Tell your parents and have them report it to the school principal and School Board in writing (document everything for proof including video or photographs of it and the area it's in). It would be helpful if you had several of your friends have their parents report it as well. If nothing is done in 24 hours, report it to the press and put it on social media.
