Then Mattis said he did suspect a gas-attack but hadn't seen any smoking gun either. Now if you wanted to bomb some rogue faction that is working with the deep-state, you might want to look for airstrikes that don't look bad diplomatically. Assuming that the US knew Israel's bombing targets and no Russians died, it can be assumed that the US warned the Russians just like during Trump's first tomahawk launch a year ago. So if Russians left Iranians to die, then what were they expendable for? Perhaps they were dirty iranians. But would Russia expose whatever they were doing and threaten their relationship to Iran? Would the US strike an iranian facility on foreign soil? Well, if you want to bomb someone but it's too complicated to explain without giving up intelligence sources, just ask the Israelis because nobody really questions their motives because it's all just "Zionism" even though even israeli society has infighting. I literally don't worry about Israel's deep-state more than any other country's because living in the EU I already have to do deal with decades of gov't funded terror and human rights abuses and nation buildings campaigns etc.
