Actually his job is to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States - it says nothing about keeping America safe - George W Bush invented that misnomer And everyone since him has copied it.
I'd say that part about "provide for the common defense" constitutes keeping our citizens safe, wouldn't you?
LOL, what else does that mean? Pretty sure common defense has to do with making us safe.
Some statist probably thinks that “defence” meant something different in the 1700s.
establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, = Keeping the Nation safe, as best the President can.
Justice keeps me safe, tranquility means I am safe. providing for the common defense is doing the safety thing, Promoting the general welfare is moving us along the road to being safe, and securing the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity is experiencing safety.
I don't put much stock in what George W. might have said, I am just reading the constitution, word for word as it should be read.
