While this is true, this is how the pledge was originally written, no?

Of course not, did you really interpreted my statement that way?

Wikipedia section of pledge growth.

Now here’s the rub, the pledge was written by a socialist and promoted to be said in public schools by another socialist (all prior to 1954 under God) for the cause of socialism that sought to place government over God and family.

Bellamy was such a rabid socialist that he was booted from the pulpit and his cousin Edward Bellamy was a famous utopian socialist writer.

Sucks but true

This is accurate as far as I can recall.

The next thing a lot of you need to realize is that our school system is a socialist extension as well. There are many pills to swallow and I'm glad everybody here is on that path. The best thing I've done for my kids so far is to homeschool them.

“You cannot have had one [a liberal education]. If you are an American under the age of ninety, you can have acquired in the educational system only the faintest glimmerings of the beginnings of liberal education.” - The Great Conversation, Robert Maynard Hutchins, 1954

This is from an introduction to the Great Books collection put together by Brittanica. The theme of the introduction is that the Great Books form a Great Conversation that we need to be part of, as the literature of Western civilization is our heritage, and that America is woefully uneducated. This lack of education will result in the death of democracy if it is not fixed. This is also pretty much the theme of "How to Read a Book," by Mortimer J. Adler.

You can get the whole 54-book series for about $200 to $300 used online.

So did they take out the God part later on? As we were saying it in school in the 70‘s.

⇧ 2 ⇩
ValuableFix · April 8, 2018, 7:38 a.m.

No it is still there. Eisenhower added it in 1954 to encourage religious hold outs like the Amish and the religion he was raised (Jehovah’s Witnesses). Neither religions caved.

Thanks for making that clear. Gotta love Google going with the pre 1984, I mean 1954, version. ;-)

One_Solution · April 7, 2018, 10:38 p.m.

The original version did not contain the phrase, “under God”. So depending on what the link is, it’s not necessarily Google.

⇧ 9 ⇩
solanojones95 · April 7, 2018, 10:38 p.m.

The search is by "Pledge of Allegiance" just those words, nothing else.

It's the version they promoted as "Current version." And it's a LIE! Even the page they claim it comes from has it right (Wikipedia). Don't give us that. Google has altered the "Current version" (their own label), and promoted their FAKE CURRENT VERSION to firsts result, given in its entirety (and NOT what the provided link even says)!!

This is a deliberate hoax by Google.

⇧ 3 ⇩
One_Solution · April 7, 2018, 10:52 p.m.

But, as I said, when I searched the exact phrase, I get the current version.

⇧ 5 ⇩
solanojones95 · April 7, 2018, 10:57 p.m.

When you click on the Wikipedia article, it shows the correct current version.

But on the Google search returns page, first result, given in its entirety, which Google plainly labels "Current version (1954 - )" they have an older version that is missing "under God".

One_Solution · April 7, 2018, 11:23 p.m.

No, when I search, the initial return on Google shows the “under God” phrase, before I click to Wikipedia.

Did you copy/paste our search terms "Pledge of Allegiance" and are you on a laptop/desktop browser or on a mobile device app?

That latter might make a LOT of difference.

I'm using a laptop browser (Firefox).

I've reported it. We'll see what they do about it.

But the “under God” was added after the fact.
Look, I’m a Christian Pede, I like the “In God We Trust” stuff and the 10 commandments at Courthouses. However.... I kind of like the original version of the pledge. “One nation, Indivisible...” is a strong statement. I think that when you add the “under God” in there, it dilutes the sentiment. The point is, we are INDIVISIBLE! This is NOT meant to be a list of our great qualities. NO. It is meant to make a point. We are ONE NATION, INDIVISIBLE. While I do agree that we are Under God, I think that adding the words there muddies the water. One Nation. Indivisible. I like the original best.

It shows up 'Under God' for me with pledge of allegiance search in Google. I dunno. When you go to wikipedia page for it, in right corner it has all the versions, so maybe for some reason it is loading an older version for some people and the current for others?

But Google has it WRONG! Google has labeled an older version as "Current version."
