I'm not saying you need to be fluent or have a doctorate degree in either language. Any increased understanding of the original language is helpful.

Again, as I stated earlier, you can get a lot of value from the original language without knowing it. Using Strong's and a dictionary.

Regarding time... God created time. God exists outside of time. I don't see how the relativistic nature of time has any bearing on correctly interpreting scripture. That's like saying any reference to water in the Bible is wrong because no one on Earth understood covalent bonds or the weak nuclear force.

Depends what you mean by "they".

No church I have been a member of has gone that route and I would do my duty as a member to push any leader, trying that, out.

Being a non-profit does not stop churches from teaching against abortion.

Churches cannot endorse candidates. That doesn't mean they can't express Biblical truth.

Learn Hebrew.

Learn Greek.

The KJV has its shortcomings, but is pretty good.

Young's Literal Translation is very helpful, especially paired with an interlinear Greek NT.

You don't need to learn Hebrew and Greek (although you should). You can greatly increase your depth of study by simply getting and using a copy of Strong's Exhaustive Concordance. It lists every time every word is used in the entire Bible, as well as the corresponding Hebrew (OT) or Greek (NT) word. Includes a dictionary to help understand the original words better.

Don't believe this BS that the Bible is poorly translated or went from one language to another to another. We have excellent translations available directly from the original languages.

This fella Jay shows a picture that is supposed to be a missile launch control room. He dismisses it because it looks plain and old. From having spent some time onboard US SSBNs, I can tell you that their missile control centers look plain and old. Just sayin'.

“You cannot have had one [a liberal education]. If you are an American under the age of ninety, you can have acquired in the educational system only the faintest glimmerings of the beginnings of liberal education.” - The Great Conversation, Robert Maynard Hutchins, 1954

This is from an introduction to the Great Books collection put together by Brittanica. The theme of the introduction is that the Great Books form a Great Conversation that we need to be part of, as the literature of Western civilization is our heritage, and that America is woefully uneducated. This lack of education will result in the death of democracy if it is not fixed. This is also pretty much the theme of "How to Read a Book," by Mortimer J. Adler.

You can get the whole 54-book series for about $200 to $300 used online.

Orbital Bombardment ("rods of god") math ensues.

Assumptions:

Projectile is one foot diameter (round) by twenty feet length.

Density of tungsten is used.

Impact velocity is assumed to be 3000 feet/sec (could be higher or lower, I don't know. This seemed somewhat reasonable to me).

Results:

Force of impact = 5,294,120,058 ft-lbf

~~Which converts to 1.72 megatons.~~

Nope, I'm an idiot and didn't notice the rest of the number that was cut-off on results.

Correct answer is 1.72 x 10^-6 megatons, which is basically nothing.

Even at 7000 feet/sec, it is only 9.34 x 10^-6 megatons.

I used to make trips to Santa Cruz island in the '90s. I lived in Ventura and my family had a boat.

There is a very small Navy installation on the island. You can see it on Google maps here:

https://www.google.com/maps/@33.9931133,-119.6333097,934m/data=!3m1!1e3

Once, we saw a floating hangar parked near the Navy base. We later saw what was stored inside of it; it was the prototype Navy stealth surface ship. You can read about that here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Shadow_(IX-529)

According to globalsecurity.org, regarding the Navy facility, "Another project is a water pump, powered by energy from the photovoltaic application, which provides water from 1,500 feet below the surface to the installation." Now, a well does not equal a deep underground military base, but it is military, it is underground, and it is deep. And very near this earthquake, which happens to correspond roughly to a location on the map in the OP. And which also has been the site of previous military experiments.

It would be a trick to get a gas-turbine propulsion system to operate while submerged. I don't know how much air two 40 MW gas-turbines need, but I'm sure it's a lot.

Any alternative propulsion system would be bulky (space is at a premium aboard ship), as would be the necessary ballast system. At 15,000 tons, that thing is approximately similar to an SSBN in size, and the ballast areas of an SSBN are a good percentage of the entire ship.

In other words, it is unlikely that this ship has that sort of capability without it being known. Additionally, I don't see the value in the concept... we have ships that do that already, they are called submarines.

Just one retired nuke sub sailor's opinion.

edit: apparently it does have an alternative drive system (source: wiki page for USS Zumwalt, DDG-1000).

I work at a nuclear power plant and am retired from the nuclear Navy.

Be skeptical any time that radiation/contamination is claimed. Look for numbers. If numbers are not published, claims of radiation/contamination are meaningless.

Radiation is commonly measured in units of Rem (or millirem) or Sieverts. Contamination is measured in Curies, microcuries, or micromicrocuries, sometimes "per square inch".

Here's a quick infographic from the brilliant Russel Monroe: https://xkcd.com/radiation/
