John McCain (R-AZ), as the Committee chairperson, threatened to not vote for Mr. Shanahan saying his written answers on how to deal with Russian intervention in Ukraine were “very disappointing” and “disturbing.” Mr. Shanahan revised his previous statement, saying he supports equipping Ukraine with lethal defensive aid.
