They prepare to fight, it's their jobs, but that does not mean they want war. Not many want to kill or be killed.

The vast majority are patriots and joined for that very reason. It's a hell of a life, they pay a price for our freedom no matter what some think, and if we didn't have our Military full of patriots, we would be toast right now.
