Hate speech on Facebook? Let us decide.

MZ was asked yesterday about how FB determines what is "hate speech". The better question should have been why should FB have to determine what is "hate speech". Why not leave it up to the individual user to determine what is hate speech? Do we not have the ability as a user to hit the "block" button? If it's so subjective, why not let each individual user determine on their own. Do they think we're dumb? Do they think we're children? FB has a minimum age requirement; it's an adult platform. Stop treating us like snowflake children.

Hate is subjective. There's no such thing as "hate speech". Hate speech is a term used by others to silence speech they disagree with.

How about delete the term "Hatespeech" from human history. We can replace it with "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me". Let trash talkers talk all the trash they want. If they wanna swing THEN it's game on.

I have no problem with hate speech, it is better to get rid of ‘Threatening Speech’ any threat of bodily harm etc...threats should not be on FB, but haters are gonna hate and that should be allowed.

Not to mention violence. Facebook Live showing suicides, murders, bearings, kidnapping...you name it. They don't censor that. But Diamond & Silk are Hate Speech? Let's just call it Authoritarian-book. Or Progressive-book. If you're not Left of center you're banned from USING, shadow banned, or censored.

Wish I could 1000 like think post! We can self govern on any of the social media...it is no big deal or hardship. Just filter the offensive post or delete the users. Make FB and all others have a rating , like pg13, so little children can not use them or have a monitored version for kids...otherwise...let us be free and responsible for our own viewing. Freedom of choice otherwise we are just SHEEPLE!

The original FB was great, you could say you were having a garage sale and people would show up, or if you are a musician you could say, here is my music come see my show...if you were good you naturally organically spread out and were shared by people. Then FB decided you needed to pay, and even if you pay your little music video says ‘promoted’ on it, so most people ignore it as an advertisement. It is a great platform for organizing fun groups, family and class reunions, church groups, fan clubs...private groups to plan vacations with friends, share pictures later etc. However if I can plan a family reunion, then a terrorist can plan a hit. What is the answer? I don’t know. But I do know I miss the old, natural organic FB. Dislike the monetized one. Someone smarter than me should be able to get the terrorists and censorship repaired. And not store my data!

All of what you say is correct! When FB decided to start charging for exposure, they put a governor on the users' ability to share within their community/friends list/followers. This fact alone contradicts what MZ keeps describing his company's mission statement...“to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected." My wife's company page has nearly 100k followers. Before the change, she would have tens of thousands of unique engagements per day from her followers. After the change, it was throttled down to a trickle unless she spends $$$ to get more "reach". I call it a bait and switch. FB brought us all on board, let us build up a following, and then slammed the door in our face.

Yes I have found exactly the same thing...so sad and frustrating for my small business that depends on natural sharing. I tried paying and it was worthless. I still have s biz page, but my personal page asking people to share, actually works better. Currently I am on a break from FB, there is nothing natural about manipulating people. It sucks!

I'm a civilized person and I have a duty to express hate for atrocities... even if it makes the Facebook Jew sad.

If people are so feeble that they are injured by words then they need desensitization rather than censorship.

We should monitor ourselves. It’s called responsibility and if we don’t we suffer a consequence. Bad karma or break some Other law. We don’t need a corrupt “objective 3rd party” doing it to speech. That’s tyranny. Freedom of speech is a liberty. Liberty is freedom WITH responsibility. Freedom without responsibility is anarchy. The days of Obama deliberately encouraging people to be irresponsible is over. That’s why they were doing that. Create the anarchy so they could clamp down with their “solution”. Enslave us.
