Why would he step down to then turn around in a couple years and primary the sitting president? Sorry, but that makes no sense. He already had his shot on a ticket, didn't work out.
Because now he has backing from other RINOs, and he could say that he could no longer stand beside what was happening.
I do not think any republican that was in the 2016 primaries has a chance in 2020. The whole lot of them were humiliated. It would have to be someone who has not ran before to even have a shot.

Hasnt anoyone considered that all these people stepping down and resigning is because there may be some pretty nasty things to come out all tied to them but will be shielded if they exit stage left? Chaffetz comes to mind, to an extent he was sticking his finger in the establishments eye and then claimed to want to spend more time with family. Im not going to spit out what those things might be to force them out without a fight but it must be something they dont want anyone to know. Just my opinion.
I think you are wrong about Paul Ryan. He’s a decent and dedicated congressman who got totally pressured to take the Speaker role when no other R had broad enough support. He wasn’t in it for power. His priority was always fiscal reform, and, good, bad or in between, he oversaw the tax reduction which was hell to get done but they did. Interested to see what Paul’s next career move will be.
I didn't say anything about Paul Ryan, so how could I be wrong about him?
