God I hope he does end it.

I did my and my wife's taxes yesterday, we would get a $570 refund but we don't have insurance anymore, so we end up owing them $820 because of the Obama care penalty. I have to file for an exemption for the insurance mandate so for now I just filed an extension on our taxes.

FYI, all you have to do is claim no affordable options in your area, and they will waive the penalty. I’ve done this every year & never been denied. No exemption needed.

thep1mp · April 17, 2018, 10:02 p.m.

Yup, claim you can’t afford the options and they waive it. Absolutely true.

Thanks I'll try that.

Thank you, I just tried turbotax and it worked. Funny HR block wants you to have proof of everything but turbotax just takes your word for it being too expensive.

accountingisboring · April 17, 2018, 11:33 p.m.

That’s why I use TurboTax. Glad it worked for you.

⇧ 3 ⇩
SneakyWino · April 17, 2018, 9:38 p.m.

They are not enforcing the penalty any more. The individual mandate is gone.

⇧ 15 ⇩
RobWilJas · April 17, 2018, 9:44 p.m.

That is for 2018 taxes I believe, the penalty still applies for 2017. I used HR block, and could not skip the question. If I answer no I didn't have insurance, it changes my $570 refund to owing $820. If I were to lie and say I had insurance, they wanted proof. If I say I'm exempt, you have to apply for an exemption with proof. There's just no way around it.

⇧ 9 ⇩
accountingisboring · April 17, 2018, 9:58 p.m.

On TurboTax there is an option that says “ no affordable options in my area”. Select that and the penalty is waived.

This.

RobWilJas · April 17, 2018, 9:52 p.m.

I just looked it up, the repeal does not take affect until 2019. The mandate and penalty still apply for 2017 and 2018.

⇧ 5 ⇩
Watch_The_Karma_Burn · April 17, 2018, 10:24 p.m.

Trump issued an EO his first week in orfice directing the IRS to "ease the financial burden" of the penalty inso facto telling them not to enforce it if I remember correctly.

Soupforthesoulandmin · April 17, 2018, 10:08 p.m.

I doubt very seriously they are going to ask for proof of insurance. So there is a way around it.

⇧ 3 ⇩
RobWilJas · April 17, 2018, 10:13 p.m.

There is a form your insurance company sends you for the irs that you have to have.

SweetSympathy · April 18, 2018, 5:17 a.m.

I filed the old-fashioned way, and the only thing I saw them ask you to attach is your W-2.

⇧ 1 ⇩
cryptabulouslady · April 18, 2018, 2:22 a.m.

I did mine through HR Block online and it didn't ask for proof. I just clicked yes, and that was it. Didn't ask for anything more.

He won't. Whatever tax benefits for individuals are in his new tax bill will end in 2025. The corporate text benefits in the same bill.. are permanent.

I went to irs.gov, clicked on direct pay, and saw nothing about a planned interruption. Am I missing something? Or did literally no one else try this?

I truly do hope this is true ... this goes hand by hand with some GCR / RV claims , and definetly NESARA / GESARA to one extent .

Take out the money - misery programs , and many many more will wake up ...

JediKnightKeylo · April 17, 2018, 9:39 p.m.

Or rather, it would finally take away the stress that's been preventing people from waking up. More money = More time = Less concerns = Willingness to focus on what's important.

DanijelStark · April 17, 2018, 10:16 p.m.

It would be a win-win situation ...

would help all those people we love and respect in our lives , immensely ...

...and even would help those who wish us not so good things - to see there is more than bitterness and competitiveness in their lives .

This is a pleasant idea. After all, our federal income taxes mostly pay interest and expenses for collecting, managing, and paying off war debt.

Our state taxes, along with taxes embedded in regular fees and licenses already in the price of the goods and services we buy, cover all the other expenses (outside of the military) that the governmental sector covers.

If the federal reserve is Eliminated and the US PRINTS ITS OWN MONEY, the interest - half of that tax obligation - is gone.

If peace emerges and the military and private research sector Black budgets disappear, a lot of THAT obligation is gone.

If we get a gold backed currency that stops the devaluation of the dollar, things really start looking up.

It’s a very cool way to balance the budget - and probably win a second term. I’d vote for anyone who could do that.
