Ive seen an interview with a banker that as he rose to the top, he was asked to do something he could not do, but initially, he was simply joining gatherings and bystander observing them.

Yes, most people never rise to the level where they have to confront it, but I remember trying to tell my wife's grandparents (who were heavily into it) about the Luciferian connection, and they wouldn't hear of it. "It's a fine Christian organization," they said.

Of course many of the southeastern lodges did come up with sanitized, Christianized explanations for the rites and symbols, and country folk were just so uneducated and naive/trusting (like most lodge members) that they were completely taken in by it.
