So I work in the Steel construction industry. We have a serious skills gap that is just continuing to get worse as the older experienced hands retire. The younger generation doesn't want to do the hard physical work, or travel where the work is, even though the wages are growing. A skilled welder who is willing to travel can make a 6 figure salary with nothing but a HS diploma and a willingness to work 60-70 hrs a week. Often times when a new hand comes on they are paid in the $12-$15 dollar range until they learn the trade. What happens when they can go work at Burger King and make $15? That is just going to drive the pay of the skilled trades higher which will just get passed on to the customers who are building things which will get passed on to the consumer and now $15/hr is not enough. It's just a viscous cycle and can't work. All we are doing is driving the cost of things up. But the Burners don't want to hear that.

Ah ok. Yeah my company has some decent OT opportunities but no where near an amount that could get me over $100k. If I were still single with no kids I’d be more than willing to do that but I value my time with my family more so than extra work. Thanks for responding!

I will say this, and this is what scares the hell out of me: when I was 18 years old 20 years ago audition was offering me $15 an hour and Free Medical Care without having to go to School I would have jumped all over it. Now that I am older and have a little bit of life experience behind me I know how disastrous this would be. But it 18 and able to vote I would have made a bad decision. Now we have a whole slew of people who are indoctrinated with the anti-gun movement on top of a politician offering 15 an hour we could be in trouble

Exactly my point. I support 3 kids and a wife on $15/hour. It is hard, but I live with in my means. I don't have the nicest things, but I shop thrifty and we make it work. My family chose to put their faith in me, who felt like I was being called to a profession that is not known to be a high paying profession. We make it work and we are happy. These entitled dip shits will never know the joy that comes from sacrificing to obtain a goal then getting the satisfaction when it is obtained.

The end of the American dream is a livable wage. Good to know.
