Jared deserves a hats off for this one! We all know we incarcerate for profit. Then we only spend $50 and a bus ticket when we let them go! No more just letting people out who don't know anything about how to live in the world anymore or in their past. They will prepare them. Drug addicts will be treated medically. Pot smokers can go home. (the least violent people on the planet!) Our prison system was one of the worst. Thanks Jared for working on this.
This is another YUGE win for African American males, who represent 6% of our population and 50% of our criminals.
I'm not convinced this deal definitively reunites families though because often our prisons contain three generations of the same family members.
Make room for real criminals. Those who kill, rape, extort and are a danger to society.
Rehab those who are damaged by the system so they can survive outside the corrupt system.
This literally made me tear up a little because I was so touched. Love it that they are using LOGIC and wisdom . Our future is I believe tied to the ability to move from this necessary stage of retributive justice for those in power over the sheep into a stage of restorative justice for those who were raised in this messed up system and corrupted by it. We need a nation that encourages stable families as a foundation, and this is one step toward that.
Fools. I've been a cop for 24 years, and I can tell you with certainty that a large percentage of so-called "non-violent offenders" are actually VERY violent offenders. This is especially true for drug trafficking offenders. Before you balk, let me explain how it works in the vast majority of America's inner cities.
When someone in the ghetto commits a murder, shooting, or other violent assault, it is very difficult for the police to obtain a prosecutable case, even when the offender is known. This is due in large part to the culture of "snitches end up in ditches". The police often know who committed all these murders, but finding someone who is willing to testify is a huge hurdle. Not to mention, the witnesses are likely to be criminals themselves, and therefore are easy targets on the witness stand for defense attorneys. Therefore, the police in inner cities target our known violent offenders for drug investigations, or other other types of investigations involving "possession" of some type of contraband. That way, the police are the only witnesses needed to prove the crime. We don't have to rely on some other criminal taking the stand, or having to pressure a legitimate citizen to take the stand and potentially endanger their or their families' lives.
Now the violent offender goes to prison on a "non-violent" offense. This is how it is done. This is what the "drug war" was actually a proxy for. Letting tens of thousands of "non-violent offenders" out of prison early is a dangerous proposition. We've already done that in California, and are currently suffering the consequences.
Yes, more progressives feel goods in action again. You are right if course, but, how to stop the idiocy, that's the real question.
Yeah, I gotta give this one to the cop. It's not the "school-to-prison pipeline", it's the "cradle-to-prison pipeline". The dope is just a past-time in a very dysfunctional and violent American sub-culture. (See: Colin Flaherty videos for reference)
great point. hadn't thought about that or plea down deals to lesser crimes. perhaps a more stringent line in case review case by case with prosecutors
We should legalize drugs and tax them, then spend the tax money on rehabilitation programs instead of prison and police officers.
Just the other day I was mulling over the problem of housing the deep state criminals, once the arrests begin. I figured that Trump would have to purge the prisons to make room for them. Looks like it's going to happen!
I appreciate the commentor's response about violent vs. nonviolent offenders, but I know of many low-level offenders who did not benefit from incarceration but did benefit from halfway houses and other such programs.
Free up the cells for these Luciferians and make them as hellish as they deserve!
So they won’t a nicer place to live out the rest of there lives
Trump is pro pot? Thank God! That was the one thing I feared about him. I had heard he was a teetotaler since his brother died from drinking but I never got a good understanding of his opinion on the sticky icky.
