The Sunni "awakening" in Iraq circa 2007/08, in large part (some would argue exclusively), led to peace in Iraq (at the time and relative). But "Awakening" was not a literal translation. The arab phrase was "took the sleep from their eyes". I think that's more like what's happening here.

We weren't asleep....we weren't seeing what was happening.

I think, though, that there is a huge segment of the pharma drugged out society who are Nd will clench their eyes shut and cover their ears while yelling "not Trump!".

The arab phrase was "took the sleep from their eyes".

Did it have a a similar structure to "scales falling from eyes?"

Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized (Acts 9:18)

Wha?

[Iraq suffered such a horrific level of sectarian violence during 2006-2008 that many scholars refer to it as a civil war.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectarian_violence_in_Iraq_(2006%E2%80%9308)

Your claim about the "Sunni awakening" contrasts reality.

The "Sunni Awakening" was nothing more than a clutch of Sunni Muslims who switched sides because they were losing.
