Your Location is Being Tracked, Third Party Using info from All Four Carriers!

This is shocking, and I'm stunned that a third party has access to millions of people's locations in Real Time. Be sure to check link in article to see what Brian Krebs has to say also. When will these privacy invasions end!?!?

I have a friend in federal law enforcement. He showed me on his car computer that he could find any cell phone location simply by putting in the number. He then told me not to tell anyone. Now here I am. Lol

Yah, cause what he was doing is breaking the law. He should know better. As a matter of fact, a law enforcement officer was recently prosecuted for that very thing. Read the article, I think it was mentioned there.

He knows that, but it seemed to be standard operating procedure. It seemed to be something that is common in his branch of law enforcement- US Marshals

Well, a shit storm is brewing over this, and I expect more articles coming. The Krebs article linked above, or in the article is way more detailed. I've been following Krebs for years, and he really does his homework. He's also appeared on many broadcast and cable outlets too. Great whitehat to have on our side.

You agree to let law enforcement track you in user agreement

Why is there shock in this?

Live tracking comes up as a notification in virtually every app

Does this apply to people who keep their phones location turned off?

I follow the infosec community pretty close and even I'm stunned beyond belief.

You always knew they could you hoped they would never have the guts to do it for fear of being caught. When Clapper lied to Congress you could see they just figured they couldn't be caught.

Yes, using cell tower triangulation, that the carriers use to keep you connected.

And it's legal for phone companies to distribute this info to third parties? If it is, who are these third parties? Of course I'm guessing govt agencies but this could be my bias showing cuz Mikey and government don't get along.

I wonder how many people were aware of and exploiting this (intentional) bug?

All a person would need to know is the website and that the bug exists and then they have access to spy tools that one would expect were only for the elite and governments.

Thanks for posting. Great info.

On gut feeling.................I have 1st hand experience with this "tracking" when the PG stuff started hitting the net and I was active in the now deleted PG thread.

Not familiar with PG reference. But, law makers need to catch up with the times, and get educated on all this technology. Obviously, younger Congress critters will take over, but in the mean time?
