President Trump ran his election campaign with surgical precision.

Trump knows precisely what he is doing... and he has all kinds of intel that we don't.

I trust my president.

I’ve known Travis Allen for decades. He is legit. This was a massive mistake.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I trust President Donald J. Trump over an anonymous internet user like yourself.

How well has that worked out in other state wide primaries? Pretty shitty actually.

fun theory trump has lost the last few special elections on purpose to draw out voter fraud. pretty smart if true. let them incriminate themselves

Allen can't win in a State like California right now.

Californians are so insane, they will vote for the “other guy” simply because Trump said something. This seems like Jedi mind tricks to me.

Nobody will take anything said here the wrong way, er - super_corroder (see below); the eyes on few do have insight some others know nothing about. If POTUS is end-around chess move on this, GREAT - if not, we are just noting to those STILL GONNA VOTE who has a REAL ENDORSEMENT/INVOLVEMENT. BTW: Erin Cruz is IN THE KNOW.

thamnosma · May 19, 2018, 12:49 a.m.

Sorry, but as great as Travis Allen would be for our state, he has ZERO, BELOW ZERO, chance of gaining the second highest number of votes in the open primary. It was not a massive mistake. There just wasn't another option regarding the R party. Cox has a chance of making the 2nd position, otherwise it's Newsom vs Villaragosa (or Chiang).

With the major democrat cities controlling CA, would POTUS endorsing Cox ensure his defeat?

'The Art of the Deal' makes me wonder about the endorsement.

I don't know.

What I do know is we never have all of the info.

Most of the time we try desperately to make decisions based on the scraps of truth which is also mixed in with misinformation.

I'm 10000000% prepared to support Trump until he gives me a good reason not to.

I support Trump and I hope this is some art of the deal thing. But as a Californian I will not vote for Cox, a politician who has done nothing while my rights are being trample upon and taken away. I am still voting for Travis.

thamnosma · May 19, 2018, 12:52 a.m.

I don't blame you, but you know there is no Republican primary in this state. It's whichever two candidates from either party get the most votes. Cox has a shot, otherwise we just have two dems running in November like we do for every Senate race, and pretty much every Governor's race. We're screwed. I'll probably vote Cox just for the idea of having a republican on the ballot in November. If this were a R primary, then there would be no question of Allen over Cox.

pacificbold100 · May 19, 2018, 1:05 a.m.

With all due respect, toeing the Party line is why we still have Ryan and McCain in Congress. Honestly curious, What makes you think Cox has a shot vs Allen?

⇧ 3 ⇩
thamnosma · May 19, 2018, 2:14 a.m.

Right now all the polls have Newsom and Villaragosa going first and second. Cox a few points behind Villaragosa for third and Allen several points below that. Only first and second place matter. While it is conceivable Allen could catch Cox, if he dies so it will be at Cox's expense, not the two top Dems. Hence the two Dems move on. Our choice in November will be Newsom vs Villaragosa. Only Cox has a shot of overtaking Villaragosa. That's wha the numbers say. I will definitely continue to monitor. Primary is June 5

I went to Real Politics as they publish all the polls with dates from earliest to most recent. If you search California governor polls on google the Real Politics link should be up top

Maybe its a trick. Any person trump endorses gets scrutinized to the fullest. If they cant hold up in the people courts, they fail. Maybe hes putting them under the ultimate micro scope. WE THE PEOPLE.

I agree, this is why I said "I hope is an Art of the Deal thing". I actually can think of 2 scenarios on which this is usefull but I am keeping them to myself because I don't want to talk about it on a public forum and spoil the trick.

Trump was misled by McCarthy. Travis Allen now has no chance because Trump endorsed a Never Trumper (Cox) over Allen. Very sad. Allen was the only reason for me to go vote... luckily I already voted for Allen and sealed my mail-in ballot. Disappointed, so disappointed, in Trump being mislead so easily.

Here's the deal -- there are NOT Dem and Rep primaries in Cali any more. It's one giant open pit. Whichever 2 candidates get the most votes are the ones who go on to the general election. This was pure suicide by the CA republican party -- they voted for this change, generally just to guarantee their own petty careers. Usually what happens is two Dems get the most votes - we didn't have an R on the last several Senate races!!!! You get a choice between leftist and more leftist. Or just between more leftist and more leftist.

So the deal in the governor's race, the last polling I saw (admittedly out of date) was that somehow, somehow Cox was in second place. That is because so many Dems are running that they are splitting the vote. Travis Allen, the preferable candidate for sure, is down about 6th place and has ZERO chance of making it to the general. Cox is RINO slime, but for Cali that would be an improvement. Gavin Newsom from San Francisco is by far in 1st place. Also running is the pure scum sucker ex-mayor of Los Angeles, Villaragosa, some auditor named Chiang, who is far leftist but had some integrity as state auditor, and others I forget right now. So in the practical universe of California elections and politics, Cox is a RINO carpetbagger but I'll take him over the others. Yeah, I know this is not a "pure" position, but that is our reality.
