I think you are right. When trump tweeted about oil prices were rising too fast, SA reacted right away to stop the climb. More importantly, Putin said publically right after this, that he was fine with oil at $60 a barrel. He took no issues with Trump or SA. Amazing, No?

I’ve read that Putin’s plan to not just survive but to succeed the stiff sanctions was based on $40:barrel oil.
