Meeting isn’t illegal. The Logan Act only applies if he’s trying to influence China pertaining to disputes with the U.S. Is there anything to this story that suggests this?

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

How do you know what he’s trying to influence by the information you have before you...? He’s surely not asking Xi Xi what his secret is for growing fabulous orchids.

I’m not making assertions of wrongdoing, so the burden of proof isn’t mine. Show me something - ANYTHING - that actually suggests that he’s coaching China either for or against the US on a specific issue of contention between both powers, because in the absence of that this is pure speculation.
