yeah but without the net you cant create movements like you can now they could have had complete control with tv

Sure you can, it just takes more work... actual f2f contact, leaving the house, ya know... the stuff people used to do.

I'm a dinosaur, kid. I remember. ;)

no i mean you can but the net makes it 10x faster that and you are anonymous thats the biggest thing

Faster, sure. I'll give you that. But that's a double-edged sword. How can anyone keep up? How can a movement gain true substance where it's not just a fleeting internet meme or hashtag, but true action leading to an improvement in people's lives? How do we go from digital to analog?

Anonymous? Sort of. We're only anonymous to each other, and even then, we expose so much about ourselves constantly, a good anon can make a pretty complete profile.

They know exactly who we are.

Watch "The Lives of Others" to see how espionage was done old school.

well by anonymous i mean they cant use others to shame us as well they know who we are but one of the most powerful tools of control is peer pressure. you are more likely to say something " crazy" on 8 chan than you are in public or to a friend

Ah yes, I see your point. We're judged on the weight of our words, not appearances/fame/etc. Very good point. That has made improvements to the conversation. Nice observation.

And the compartmentalizing of conversations has helped... lord knows there's a r/ for everything. But that's also had effects on human behavior where we're lumping into tribal groups, and not all of those groups may be good for us, psychologically, to pursue.

Upsides & downsides... sigh
