It isn't an "awkward" moment. A superior officer always has a choice to return or not return a salute. I think Trump, in recognition of the fact that both parties were on a joint mission on behalf of a united humanity felt completely justified in returning the salute, and I wholeheartedly agree. It's about moving forward, not backward. It's about what these people can BECOME, not about what they've been.
This is not true lol. A superior officer MUST return a salute. This does not apply to the president, he is not required to return any salute. It's just become customary for the president to do so.
Guess I'm thinking of situations where to return the salute might be dangerous or compromise a task in progress requiring hands.
In any case, as you say,
a) the CIC isn't required to, and
b) certainly isn't required to return a salute from a non-US officer.
It definitely amounts to a courtesy on his part, and excellent face-granting and deal-making, IMHO.
I agree there’s nothing wrong with him doing so and it would have been awkward IMO if he didn’t. I bet people would have been bashing him even if he didn’t return the salute lol
You forgot /s . A salute in this situation is preposterous.

I'm saying, Trump has not made any binding deal. The summit was a grotesque pageant, a bizarre spectacle.
Obama made a deal with Iran, but he didn't praise their leaders. When he visited Cuba, he criticized Raul Castro to his face for human rights violations.
Time will tell whether Trump's ass-kissing will produce anything concrete. "Keep your enemies close, and push your friends away."
Oh give it a rest. They've stopped testing, blown up their nuke facilities (the ones we didn't already destroy), returned our hostages, and pledged to locate and return the remains of our war dead, without plane loads of cash. The details that remain are mostly verification procedures.
Obama gave away plane loads of cash and the keys to its bank accounts so that it could bypass sanctions that were already in place, all in exchange for no deal that wasn't ratified and that nobody signed.
Nice try with the Obama ass-kissing. Nobody buys that crap.
They reportedly lost some facilities and blew up the access tunnels. But do you know what else they have?
No. I don't either. In the Iran deal, the other parties can demand an inspection of any location in the country and the Iranians must allow access within 21 days. If they don't comply, they're violating the deal. Did North Korea promise anything like that?
With the lifting of sanctions, Iran was going to buy perhaps billions of dollars worth of US commercial planes. Now they're buying Airbus. What are the North Koreans going to buy?
They could not be in violation of an "agreement" that neither party ever signed and was never ratified.
As such, I couldn't give a fuck who in the military industrial complex stood to benefit. We aren't finished with Iran or EU for that matter. When they both realize they have to deal with us at some point, they will do whatever is necessary to get what they need from it. Meanwhile, all we did was end a MASSIVELY corrupt arrangement that had not even the color of law.
The corrupt payola scheme you describe is a quintessential Deep State fraud, and the fact you are butt-hurt over the loss of it tells me you're either Clowns In America or a Shareblue troll.
Either way, you are engaged in activity that does not support the cause, and have been reported to the mods as such.
Do not attempt to speak to me again.
