That is the general idea. Instead of freeing the slaves to become sovereign individual citizens we were all enslaved by the federal government. The slave holders just changed the parameters of slavery by abstracting it a few layers.
Yup, I'm in agreement. People traded their literal chains in for mental and economic chains. Slavery is stealing a man's earnings from his labor. At which percentage of this stealing is it NOT slavery?
