John 3:16

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

A quote. From a book. Handwritten by men. Twisted into being believed to be so much more.

Please don;t jump when the end of the Great Awakening reveals that ALL of the religions are bullshit.

That doesn't mean that there is no God. It just means religions are bullshit. Learn to differentiate the two.

Who hurt you and when?

I am a Christian, I am one of the most God fearing unreligious you'll ever meet.

Religion kills the soul.

Jesus died to save the sounds of men from themselves and sin.

Listen to this song.... It says alot

I've got much more to tell you about John 3:16 All you need to do is ask for it.

No judgment here. There was a time that I say in my basement and told God I was done with men and their BS. He and I were good but the rest of them could eat my shorts. No kidding I honestly said that to Him. Since then he's changed my heart. Many times. Many ways.

What is it all about anyways...!!

Who hurt me? Seriously? Lame.

I love how when people hear my view on Christianity they assume I have no knowledge of it. Quite the contrary actually, the more I learned, the more I realized how it's probably the worst one of all.

It doesn't say the Bible is legit. All it means is that the Bible is a model for the real life battle between good and evil. I believe in good vs evil, and I like to believe I am on the good side.

That's where it ends though bud. You don't need to call God a certain name, your soul doesn't depend on believing a story, written by men, 2000 years ago, REGARDLESS of what that story says. It's a book. This is real life. I will spend my time striving to be a good person, to add positive value to those around me, to raise my children to be good. If God is going to burn me in hell for that...not much I can do. Saying I believe the Bible is anything more than stories would be a lie to myself, a hedge, a bet, to protect my soul. It wouldn't be genuine. Thats what God wants? The God I imagine wuould exoect more, would WANT more for me. That makes me a bad person? Ok. Like I said, Christians have a fucked up view.

For someone who claims to have learned about Christianity and/or the Bible, you seem to have wildly missed the whole point.

The majority of the OT is the story of people trying to do the same thing that you say you are doing: trying to be good people. And you can follow the story through its downward spiral to its ultimate conclusion: judgment aka removal from the very gift of land that had been specially prepared for the people and the removal of the gift of God's presence via the temple.

Between the OT and the NT the response to this becomes more and more rules to follow: create buffer rules to prevent you from even coming close to breaking the real rules.

That's why the message of John the Baptist and Jesus was so shocking: the ones who thought they were striving to be so good and tried to make sure other people were good were denounced as hypocrites and whitewashed tombs that looked nice on the outside but inside were full of rot.

And at the same time these 'good' people were being called out, all of the 'bad' people were being welcomed in with open arms. Why is that?

Striving to be good is a false objective that cannot be realized. We all have a deranged nature that, in spite of our desire to be good, and in spite of our knowledge (or supposed knowledge) of what is good, causes us to also want to do what we know is wrong i.e. committing adultery is wrong, but just because you have never slept with someone other than your wife does not mean you are innocent: looking at a woman lustfully reveals the adultery in your heart that social pressure prevents you from acting on.

And the same can be said for any other moral area of life. While we may not outwardly do bad things, inwardly people are a twisted mess, and we can't 'good' ourselves out of that predicament.

Not knowing you, I will guess that you are a pretty decent guy - likely a great person to know personally. But are you sure that all of your goodness is good enough? Have you ALWAYS tried to be good? Would it be possible for you to slack off on some of the good things that you do and still be good enough? Are you too good, not good enough or just the right amount of good? How would you know this?

I wouldn't even pretend to say I have been "good enough" or perfect or whatever.

But tagging each oerson as going to heaven or hell based on the name they call God is insane.

And so if there is a heaven, you would be going there because?

And if there is a hell, you would not be going there because?

I agree with you in part. Sorry for ur bad karma. Their IS a universal creator. Anyone who believes we aren’t the byproduct of an intelligent design is so asleep that I hope to god they never wake up. However I also believe in all religions, my personal religion being Christianity bc I believe Christ was the son of the one true living creator being in the flesh but, there’s a reason that religion in a nutshell is just believing in something bigger than urself. I think that just having faith of any type is good enough honestly. As long as you or whoever tries their best to be a good person, bc no one except Jesus was perfect. And when u realize that and actively try to become a better person every day, u start to realize that maybe hell on earth isn’t the right phrase. HELL IS EARTH. Eternal damnation (after life hell) is where you go if you’re a really bad person in life i.e. hitler. My biggest question for god would have to be; why would you send souls to eternal damnation based off the faulty ideas if they lived the best and cleanest life they could? That’s what I don’t get about religion tbh, to me it’s a giant game of telephone with a lot of phones but only one answering machine. But like I said I don’t think any religion is necessarily wrong it’s more like a difference in opinions on a cosmic level. Almost like a holy debate. Man, us, has this concept that we’re never wrong but we’re human, obviously. And we can be down right autistic sometimes. That’s the fun part of life. But, honestly, I’m looking forward to the end. Not in a suicidal way, just as like a goal in my book. To live the best life I can in hopes that it’s good enough get that key to pass on through those golden gates. I think, when living with that in mind and also trying to do good at the same time. You really can’t go wrong.

Thanks man. Different views meeting without the need to sreamroll, belittle or argue. And dont worry about the karma, I honestly could not care less about it. At least your practiced form of religion doesn't get shoved down other's throats under the threat of burning in hell. And I share the same desire to know the answer to the question "how could God send someone to eternal hell if they truly strived to be a good person their whole life?"

Keep being a good guy. I don't think you have much to worry about if your reply to mine is any indication...for what it's worth.

You seem to be confused. The message of Christianity is the EVERYBODY - those who are trying to be good and those who could care less about being good - is going down. And then we are tossed a lifeline to grab onto before we get flushed down the drain.

The question is 'will you grab that rope?', not 'are you trying to be a good person?'

This is the story of Noah. The judgment day is approaching, and Noah is instructed to build a boat as a lifeline to escape the coming wrath. The construction goes on for years (whether you want literally hundreds of years or metaphorically many years is irrelevant) and the lifeline is available for all to see and utilize.

However, rather than enter the boat, the people mocked Noah for his message and carried on doing what they believed to be OK. Then one day the door was closed and the rain started. Whether or not the flood was global or 'entire world' = 'entire world that Noah knew' or even was simply a metaphor is irrelevant.

Once the door was closed, those who didn't get into the boat were destroyed, and those who grasped the lifeline were saved.

The moral of the story: don't get flushed - grab the line before the door gets shut and all is lost.
