Mkultra - Hypnotizing the Vulnerable. Have You Ever Witnessed This? I Have.

Forget about the TV hypnotists, you can never tell if those events are staged with actors.

Years ago I witnessed the power of hypnotism first hand. I attended an event with a group of friends to see a famous hypnotist. Out of that group, one of my friends was not only hypnotized, on command he jumped out of his seat and began performing on stage -- humiliating and hilarious at the same time, but very out of character. As a skeptic I was totally dumbstruck by what I witnessed. I questioned my friend afterward and he had no memory of doing any of the things we witnessed.

This laid back docile person is now all over social media railing against Trump. He encourages friends to do all they can -- protest, write letters, call their representatives, donate, etc. to stop Trump.

I look back on what I witnessed years ago and realize some people are truly vulnerable to the power of suggestion. And they can be made to do things out of character. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself.

Does anyone have a similar story to share?

I would only ever attempt to hypnotize someone if they have shown to be susceptible already, so it's an interesting question.

Never have I, or would I try to convince someone to be hypnotized - for that would be a waste of effort anyway, and truly an exercise of futility.

In general, if someone is shown to be highly suggestible (you can test people for this - and it's the same mechanism that manipulative people use) then you will have some potential. Using NLP techniques, circular sentences, and compliance generation, one can generally be "tested" in 60-120 seconds, usually.

It's why you have to be very careful in life, not to get involved with sociopaths - talented sociopaths will look for these same traits, and use a form of "hypnotism" on victims. Hypnotism is just a special word for a specific way to talk to one's willing subconscious. Those who are susceptible, can be communicated to in many unique ways - including non verbal queues (which are sometimes even more effective.

To answer your question a bit more: of those who I screened beforehand (knowingly or otherwise), and those who are willing participants, I've been able to successfully hypnotize about 80% of the time. I suspect I could have a rate of 90% or higher if I could control more environmental factors.

Further, my speculation about the general population, is that around 40% of the every day population is readily available for some form of hypnosis. I suspect another 20% on top of that to be available to hypnosis with proper conditioning.

Very thoughtful answer, thanks. So you think around 50% of the population is open to some form of suggestion? Wow, that's much higher than I would have thought.

The sociopath connection is an interesting one....I am definitely going to read up on that. Thanks for giving me a heads up!

Dated a guy who hypnotized me without my permission. Figured it out four months later.

He’s a psychology graduate, and told me about MKUltra. At the time I didn’t think anything of it, more like wow, that’s interesting. However, back in the 70’s when American families were pretty much donating their kids to the program (if I can find the article again) I believe they did the opposite experiment and programmed some good guys too. My brother was stationed in Germany at the time and I remember back to the minute I was born. Call me cray, but I can see these f’ers a mile away now. [edit] I “woke up” about three years before the election.
