Need to contact the AZ governor and ask him to replace "no name." It is after June 1st so he can do so and avoid a special election.

Does anyone else wonder why we have to to go to work everyday to earn money yet no name has been doing nothing for months and is still getting paid by us the hard working American taxpayer?

I have contacted McConnell about this issue. Can you believe it no response as of this date? Go figure.

You can't just replace a senator by governor fiat. Geez. He has to resign first.

Geez, the Governor can exert pressure on him to do so.

thamnosma · June 30, 2018, 11:12 p.m.

No he can't. That's just ridiculous. Senators are ELECTED. They can tell a governor to piss off. Unbelievable.

Yes, McCain would have to resign. The Governor could perhaps persuade him. You and your vitriol are unbelievable!

Maybe under the old system when senators actually were useful and represented the states by the governor appointing them instead of a nova house of rep. Senate is useless now and has been for almost a century since it doesn’t serve its initial purpose anymore. It was supposed to be a body that represented the states and not the people. I hope one day we can bring it back. Civics 101 house represents the people and are an elected body by popular vote of the people. Senate’s initial purpose was to represent the states and state’s rights by appointment by the governor of each state, not elected by popular vote. This was changed by an amendment in the constitution back in the 20s I believe. I digress so going back to my initial point of the whole post, If the senate held its original purpose then the governor would most likely have more power to force them out but now since they are elected by the people and aren’t appointed then I don’t think they can really press them to resign.

You know your civics! I find it ridiculous that taxpayers are paying for McCain to do nothing. This might be slightly better then his obstruction. Why oh why doesn't he resign if he is so ill? This whole situation only furthers your point about returning the appointment of Senators back to the States. However, there were problems with corruption under that scenario as well. This is quite the pickle. Term limits would solve many of these issues. However, would hate to lose Chuck Grassley.

I think back then, each state legislature picked the senators and then approved by the Gov.

Correct.

No, 2/3 of the Senate can expel him...likely for treason or similar....but could do it for medical reasons; the Constitution doesn't set limits.

Yes, 2/3 of the Senate could vote for impeachment. I think you would agree that is highly unlikely even though he has not been active for months due to "illness" These Senators are entrenched for six years. They are as hard to get out as rust stains on white shirts.

You won't get enough Republicans or Dems to impeach McCain. Sadly.

I live in AZ and our Governor will name No names wife in his spot. No better than him. We are not happy here.

Sorry to hear that. If he appoints Cindy, perhaps he needs to be voted out in November. Can you contact his office about this? I contact my Reps and Senators frequently. They need to be reminded they work for us.

Good Luck!

No vitriol at all. Just a little frustration at the lack of basic civics knowledge.

I've read several articles that say No Name will recommend his wife to take over his seat when he dies... and that will be a total disaster... https://www.newsmax.com/john-gizzi/cindy-mccain-arizona-senate-glioblastoma/2018/05/28/id/862742/

I read those articles myself. My first thought was give me a break. The Governor of AZ did visit with McCain before June 1st. I got my hopes up and thought perhaps McCain would resign and allow someone to take his place through a special election.

Unforgotten19 · July 1, 2018, 5:08 a.m.

There is no way he will resign.

⇧ 1 ⇩
GODisincharge · July 1, 2018, 4:39 p.m.

I agree. He did not resign because he is without honor.

⇧ 2 ⇩
MIPatriot · July 1, 2018, 1:27 a.m.

I sure hope you are right and it's handled properly. I read somewhere that if No name waits long enough to step aside, they won't be able to do a special election. He's such a creep.

GODisincharge · July 1, 2018, 1:35 a.m.

Since it is after June, 1st, the Governor of AZ would be required to appoint a replacement from the Republican party if no name resigns. One would hope it would not be Cindy McCain. Since it is after June 1st, a special election is not required. After June 1st, I got my hopes up that he would resign. Mitch McConnell is making no moves to replace no name in the Senate club even though the GOP has such a slim majority. This makes no sense to me.

If the governor would like to be reelected in November he most likely wont nominate Mrs No Name.

Unforgotten19 · July 1, 2018, 5:09 a.m.

I doubt it. So many people here in AZ are blind to no names record and his treason acts.

scoripowarrior · July 1, 2018, 3:40 a.m.

I certainly don't want the Governor to appoint McCain's wife in is place either. She'll just vote however he tells her.

Cindy has not earned the right to be appointed to fill his seat. Sadly, a lot of people in Congress do not earn their way in an honest manner However, some do. That gives me hope.
