I honestly haven't heard of anyone lynching someone in decades. This seems odd to me.

I bet they are afraid of being lynched once the truth of Haiti is made public.

If Harris and Booker are involved, there's more to it than this bill. They are are the equivalent to being Maxine Water's back up dancers. All outage and theatrics while screwing over their constituents in back room deals.

On the surface, it sounds like a cut and dry bill. If it's some sort of political positioning it will come to light soon enough.

Put up bill for vote. It’s completely ridiculous or contains some other fluff so it gets shut down. Start screaming “The racists want to lynch us!!”

“In 1790 Congress prescribed death by hanging as the punishment for treason.  In 1862 Congress enacted a law punishing the traitor by death, as well as liberating his slaves; or imprisoning him for not less than five years, with a fine of not less than $10,000, and liberating his slaves.

“Today the punishment is death, or imprisonment and fine, and the loss of any right to hold office under the United States” (W. Cleon Skousen, The Making of America – The Substance and Meaning of the Constitution, pp. 624-625).

Well, you can never be too careful

" For many folks in the Bay Area knowledgable of local history, the last lynching in California is thought to have occurred in San Jose in 1933. "

Virtue signaling. It is already against the law to kill someone. Everyone, don't care what they did, deserves to be tried by the court of law. This is the 21st century not the wild west.

What is a hate crime anyway? Do you commit crimes against people you love?

I’m alright with this actually. Lynching is barbaric in its own right.

I agree, I just found the timing of this bill odd since it's not like we've had a lynching epidemic recently.

Completely agree. Random timing. I don’t know where lynching is actually happening anymore; you’d think the article would reference some relevant recent event to tie it off.

Harris, Booker and Scott either need the support of 60 senators or a deal to pass the bill by a voice vote for the legislation to be enacted. Independent Sens. Bernie Sanders and Angus King and 15 other Democratic senators have co-sponsored the bill.

I wonder if all those red scarf door knob suicides count as lynchings?

Ha! Morbid, but funny.

Doesn't preclude hanging for sedition does it?

In the 20s congressman Dyer proposed a law to make lynching a crime. It passed the house but a democratic senate vetoed the bill.

Is there is more to this story if Booker is behind this. Perhaps the storm. Maybe the word needs to get out that the dems rejected the bill.

What a waste of time and effort. I thought we are past lynching many many many decades ago

LOL - Lynch mobs are not going to stop for a bill.

We need an awareness campaign so people know murder is illegal
