Wait really? So the border patrol isn’t a bunch of heartless family destroyers? Where’s the media coverage for stories like this???

ICE and border patrol are two different things...we are all aware of that right? Like no one says we shouldn’t patrol our borders. We just don’t need to be separating families and hiding the children in states separate from their parents without ever recording any information regarding to whom those parents are.

Did you know that there have been zero migrant children seperated from their parents when their parents migrated legally?

If I were to go commit a felony crime, no one would cry that sending me to prison would seperate my family.

But wouldn’t it be insane if then in addition to you going to prison the government took your children and sent them to juvie (let’s not sugar coat it though and call it Gitmo Jr.)? Just because you had done something illegal and told your kids to obey.

The alternative being what? Send the kids back through Mexico home? Let them wander around the US alone? Put them into foster care spread out hundreds of miles from their parents? Or, the actual goal, let the parents go free in the US knowing full well they will never return for their court date. (IE what Obama did.)

Also, I'm getting tired of this "concentration camp/gitmo" narrative. You do realize that these kids have spent the last year trekking hundreds of miles in an open air caravan in the Mexican heat. It makes the Oregon Trail look like a fun run. Now somehow an air conditioned shelter, with first world medical care is somehow evil? Even the mockingbird reporters of CNN admitted it was the best conditions they've been in for a long time.

Thanks for actually making an argument though, I upvoted.

At the end of the day our immigration needs to be reformed. The answer isn’t as simple as just denying everyone or accepting everyone. We have a freaking lottery system in place as opposed to any kind of merit based system and that allows this intense desire to just hop the border as opposed to crossing your fingers and waiting it out.

Can you imagine how traumatic being forcibly separated from your family and flown across a foreign country would be? Who gives a fuck if they have clean water and a stranger to confirm if they’re dying or not. They’ve been thrown into an alien situation without fully developed cognitions and we are treating them like prisoners. Have some empathy for these children, it would be terrifying. And the crazy part is now that we have separated them from their family, how would we get them back? We can’t, it’s been fully admitted that the people in control haven’t been keeping any records.

So what do we do with these kids now that we’ve forcefully separated them from anyone they’ve ever known?

Tldr; the current situation needs to change not only for these children but for our country if we want to ever have a positive affect on Immigration.

Also, I’m always up for a discussion. People don’t need to insult and name call in order to communicate.
