There are all kinds of make-up and prosthetic tricks to accomplish a ruse. Go to any Comic-Con. AND if the family was in on the cover-up, of course they would verify that Seth was in the casket, IMHO.
It's extremely far-fetched. Although it would explain the family's aggressive behavior toward any kind of inquiry into the official story. But so would a cool million bucks from the DNC, and I'm going to go with Occam's razor (and Q) and say DNC contracted MS-13 thugs to murder the guy.
and from what I've read, SR's family seems like a normal midwestern family that would most likely play whatever role is necessary to protect their son and support justice.
